What's Happening at Kingsbury Market Garden

by Aaron Locker

We have been busy harvesting and washing a bumper crop of carrots and are finally finished. The constant flow of equipment, crops and containers from one place to the other will subside until spring.  We can now focus on putting everything away for the season and getting organized for winter and the next growing season.

There are a few odds and ends to wrap up like giving the culinary herbs a final sift before being jarred and shipped.  The rest of the medicinal herbs await shipment as well.  Soon all that will be left in the barn is tea!

We have three blends and straight peppermint.  Peppermint is delicious! It is calming to the digestive system, reduces nausea and soothes inflammation in the throat.  Alone peppermint is wonderful and combined with tulsi and milky oats it gets even better.  Tulsi is an adaptogenic herb which means it helps our cells cope with stress and disease.

We use mostly kapoor tulsi in our tea blends because it tastes so good, but to kick up the medicinal properties we added just a touch of vana. Lastly we blend in milky oats full of vitamins and minerals supporting nerve, adrenal and cardiac health.

We also blend milky oats with lemon balm and alfalfa. With these you receive the soothing antiviral and antiseptic properties of lemon balm with the nutrition and cleansing qualities of alfafa.

I recommend using a french press for loose tea designated for tea only.  it's the easiest and most effective way to drink tea.

Be healthy!

Pick-Up Information

When, Where and How

  • Pick-up is at the Kingsbury Farm just north of the iron bridge on Route 100 in Warren.  When you pull into the driveway, go past the barn and the house.  The pick-up area is in the wash house which is on the right-hand side of the building that is perpendicular to the house.
  • You may pick-up your share on Wednesdays between noon and 6:30pm
  • Bring a bag or box - you will need it to put all of your goodies in. If you aren't heading right home after pick-up, bring a cooler to make sure that everything stays fresh - especially when it is really hot or really cold.
  • Check your name off of the list so we know that you have picked up your share.
  • Look on the large chalk board to see which items you should be taking for your share. Be sure you are looking at your share size and then methodically work your way around the semi-circle.  If you do this, the lightest, most crushable items should be at the top of your bag.
