News

Tomorrow ( Nov 6th 2018 ) is Election day - Please Vote - We are all interconnected.  We are always in relationship to those immediately around us as well as to the broader society and to all sentient beings. Even in a remote hermitage we still live in relationship with each and every living being. For this reason, as practitioners, voting and being politically active can be a powerful way of taking our practice off the cushion. More about voting tomorrow: https://www.lionsroar.com/buddhist-leaders-help-get-out-the-vote-with-open-letter/  and a more general thought provoking essay https://tricycle.org/magazine/should-buddhists-vote/

------
Last week has been a sad week for the Triratna community, many of whom have generously supported our Sangha with their teaching, in particular Padmadharini who most recently coordinated 8 week Going For Refuge study series . Their founder, Sangharakshita, died on Tuesday morning and the community is grieving, and celebrating his great contribution he made to the spread of the Dharma in the West - and in India.  Here’s a link to a short presentation posted on Facebook about his life, if you are interested.

We announce with great sadness and appreciation that our beloved founder Zen Master Bernie Glassman has passed away early Sunday morning in Massachusetts USA. More details will be disclosed in a later time. Please include Bernie in your prayers. Soji sends heartfelt condolences to Eve, family, friends, and community. 108 bells for our dharma grandfather.

News from PBMG https://www.princetonbuddhist.org/
  • Intro to Meditation takes place every month on the second Sunday at 11:15-at PBMG - These sessions are meant to be accessible for those who have little or no background in meditation. Many people who already have a meditation practice, however, also choose to come by for a refresher. As ever, everyone is welcome.
  • Thursday nights at PBMG - Discussion and study of The Fragrance of Emptiness, Anam Thubten's new book on the Heart Sutra, continues, with meditation at 7:30 and class at 8:00. Even if you haven't been to previous classes, you're welcome to jump in!
  • Thanksgiving sittings at PBMG A special two-hour sit will be held on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 22, and the Friday and Saturday of that weekend (Nov. 23-24) will offer sessions from 10am to noon and 1pm to 3pm. We will practice in silence throughout. As with the First Saturday Sit, everyone is welcome to drop in at any point in the day, and stay for an hour or the whole day. As with the First Saturday Sits, you're welcome to bring a lunch and use the kitchen (fridge/microwave) upstairs.
  • Sunday, November 25 at PBMG --the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend--there will be Chenrezig practice from 11:15 to noon.  This is the practice of the Bodhisattva of Compassion, Chenrezig, which helps us cultivate our own deep compassionate nature. Newcomers are always invited; a brief introduction will be offered.
  • Also on Sunday, November 25, there will be a new video teaching by Anam Thubten during the 12:30 session--beginning with a brief meditation and concluding with discussion at PBMG

We Need Donations Every Week

We collect and deliver donations to the Emergency Homeless Shelter. They are always in need of non perishable food items, paper products, and gift cards. However check out their Wish List if you want to give them what they really need.

We also collect for the local pet shelter. They need pet food and pet supplies (doesn't need to be new).

Please drop off your donation in a box in the lobby and consider
signing up to deliver the donation to the shelter.

Send us your ideas for the next newsletter

If you have something to share with the rest of the sangha please email your news to Susan at bsbc19067@yahoo.com and we will be sure to include it
