Coneman Tip of the Week

With Comcast Light Up Night® coming up this Friday, have you considered how you’ll be getting Downtown this year? Since Comcast Light Up Night® is one of Pittsburgh’s biggest annual holiday events attracting people from across the Pittsburgh region, there will be a significant amount of traffic on the roads and highways as you head into the city. If you’re coming from a surrounding county and public transportation isn’t a viable option, talk to your neighbors about carpooling into the city together and collectively cutting down on parking and gas costs by sharing the burden (hint: rather than circling the block over and over, download the ParkPGH app ahead of time to find real-time information on how full each garage is). For people coming into Downtown from other surrounding neighborhoods or across Allegheny County, consider taking advantage of these alternate mobility options available across the city, rather than driving by yourself, and will ultimately help to reduce your frustration ahead of the fun times at Light Up Night:

  1. Port Authority not only offers public transportation via local bus routes, but also has two active inclines, north-south light rail service (the T), and three busways, with park and ride lots conveniently located at each station. Hint: if you’re coming from a North Side neighborhood, consider ditching your car and hoping on the T to quickly and easily get Downtown in a matter of minutes, minus the hassle of paying for and finding parking.
  2. Pittsburgh’s Healthy Ride Bike Share System is a convenient and fun option for completing short trips. With over 170 health ride stations across the City of Pittsburgh, many stations are concentrated around the core of the city and as well, there are a number of places to pick up and drop off your bikes downtown, including a location near Market Square, and is also low cost.
  3. Finally, if you’re coming from an adjacent neighborhood (like Uptown, South Side, or the North Shore), never underestimate walking to Comcast Light Up Night® – this may also be a good way to get the blood flowing in the chillier weather and see that beautiful Downtown Pittsburgh view we all love!
