The Full Journey
“You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.” – Psalm 16:11

The Path of life is a long and winding road. The terrains change, from valleys to plains to mountains. Seasons change. We never know what lies ahead. But we do know that as time marches on things will change. There is no planting. No way to pause the journey.

We live in the present. So understandably, our tendency is to focus our attention on the little plot we currently occupy. And when things are going well, when we occupy a mountaintop, we tend to try to freeze the journey.

But, just as the disciples weren’t allowed to build dwellings on the Mount of Transfiguration, we are not meant to stay put, even in the best of circumstances. Tomorrow is always a new day. And the path of life continues.

A true perspective helps us to see the fullness of the journey we are on. It allows us to view living by faith as the true opportunity of this life. It shows us how to take comfort in God, rather than in circumstance. It shows us how to have joy, even when life’s journey takes us off the mountaintop. Like the disciples, we can follow Jesus into the valley to minister to those in need without regret.

Because God’s presence journeys with us, He is manifest on every step of the path. No circumstance is constant enough to fill us. But the one who abides with us is eternal enough to fill our souls, and satisfy our deepest longings.
