Novel soundtracks on Spotify

At Gibson House Press, we love music and musicians as much as we love fiction. With our penchant for publishing novels by songwriters, musicians, and and music-inspired writers, we’ve rounded up some music to accompany your reading pleasure.  📚📚📚

The playlist for Ian Morris’s Simple Machines features author favorites from the 60s through the 90s, vibing the teenage angst of Tom Zimmerman as he leaves behind his difficult father and best friends on an island in Lake Superior and hits the road to Madison, Wisconsin. Tune in for Joy Division, Marianne Faithfull, Cowboy Junkies, and Led Zeppelin. Visit our blog for playlist links.

Books

Simple Machines by Ian Morris is off to a strong start. From The Rumpus: "A vivid landscape of history and myth enriched by Ian Morris’s signature dark humor and keen eye for observation." ALA's Booklist notes: “Morris’ characters are quirky and often infuriating, but never forgettable.” City Lit bookstore owner Teresa Kirschbraun told us: “I loved it. I went to UW and I felt like I was back there with all the struggles and excitement of being a college freshman.”
