Late Tuesday news broke of 45's autocratic attempts to order DOJ prosecutors to indict his political foes Hillary Clinton and James Comey. He is a dangerous autocrat who believes the entire government belongs to him. We can't do better than quote Ari Melber, who said “that order, if it was given, is blatantly unconstitutional.” And also: “This is both *Bananas* and Banana Republic.” Once again, the journalists are holding the line between the man-child who thinks the country is his candy store and the rest of us. Of course, we know what he thinks of journalists ...

Here are some easy, important ways you can fight the Trump regime.

  1. We  Barbara Lee
  2. We  our senators
  3. We  Sports Basement

Action #1: IEB ❤ Barbara Lee

Deadline: right now! - There's an exciting but under-reported race for Congressional leadership going on, and the East Bay is at the heart of it! Our own Representative Barbara Lee (CA-13) is running to be the new chair of the Democratic Caucus. Indivisible East Bay strongly supports Rep. Lee for this crucial leadership position. Read our statement of support. Rep. Swalwell (CA-15) has told IEB he supports her; if you're in his district, thank him and ask him to speak out loud & proud. If you're in Rep. DeSaulnier's district (CA-11), ask him to speak out in support of Rep. Lee; if you're in CA-13, let Rep. Lee know you support her. And ask family and friends with Democratic MoCs to lobby on her behalf as well. Let Barbara Lee speak for all of us!
What to say:
My name is ____, my zip code is ___, and I'm a member of Indivisible East Bay. Please support Barbara Lee for Democratic Caucus Chair. Barbara Lee has for years been a force for progressive policy in the House of Representatives. We need her fearless moral leadership on important issues like responsible management of military force, prioritizing funding for our communities, the environment, and social justice. Barbara Lee is a proven leader and she's the leader we need in this new Blue House.

Rep. Barbara Lee (email): (510) 763-0370 DC: (202) 225-2661
Rep. Eric Swalwell (email): (510) 370-3322 DC: (202) 225-5065

Action #2: Thank our Senators for speaking out against Whitaker

Deadline: no time like the present - Senators Feinstein and Harris have both publicly challenged 45's appointment of Matthew Whitaker as Acting Attorney General. Among other things, Sen. Feinstein released a statement that the Office of Legal Counsel's opinion justifying the appointment is fatally flawed; and Sen. Harris has supported the lawsuit filed by three Democratic senators to stop Whitaker from serving. Thank our Senators and ask them to continue to do all they can to fight this dangerous appointment! Tell your friends in other states to contact their senators. Read our article for more ways to help protect the Mueller investigation.

Action #3: A few of our favorite things

Deadline: when you can - We know, we spend a lot of time and virtual ink bitching about stuff that makes us angry. But this time last year we wrote an article naming some people and organizations that made us happy, and we're carrying on the tradition. Read our article, share it around, think about local and online folks and groups that make the Resistance the dynamic engine that it is. For example, Sports Basement: they not only provide great free meeting space for our All Member Meetings and Governance Committee meetings at their Berkeley location (see below about our 11/25 All Member Meeting!), they're offering a 20% discount coupon for all IEB members at all stores — check it out just below! And super important: don't forget to thank each other — we certainly thank YOU!
Get the discount at all ten Sports Basement stores by showing this flyer on your phone. Or, at Sports Basement Berkeley, you can also just mention Indivisible East Bay at the registers!

Indivisible East Bay Potluck (with a side of meeting)

Celebrate being Indivisible with us at the IEB All Member Meeting on Sunday November 25, 1-3 PM, at Sports Basement Berkeley. It's a potluck, so bring something to share, bring a friend and most importantly, bring yourself! We have a lot to celebrate — tell us you're coming so we can plan accordingly!

State and Local News

We REALLY did it! IEB and the Blue Wave

As it became clear on Election Day '18 that Democrats would retake the House of Representatives, lots of us in Indivisible East Bay joyfully cried: “We really did it!” Our many hours getting out the vote for local and national candidates by canvassing, phone and text-banking, and more, contributed to a spectacular set of victories. Savor these wins with us!

Help flip Mississippi

Democrat Mike Espy has a real chance to win the Nov. 27 special runoff for a US Senate seat. His opponent, Cindy Hyde-Smith, has doubled down on her comment that if a rancher “invited me to a public hanging I'd be on the front row.” You know you got problems when Walmart asks for its 2K donation back (hey Google, doncha want your 5K back?)  Help Espy win — our updated article has many options to phone or text bank.

How to help the Camp Fire victims

While forecasts of rain brings hope to fight the Butte County fire, thousands of families desperately need help NOW. The State of California Volunteers website has several ways you can contribute--through temporary housing, donations or volunteering. On Giving Tuesday, Nov. 27, folks can support the Camp Fire efforts by raising a pint of Sierra Nevada's special release “Resilience - Butte County Proud IPA.”  All donations go to the Sierra Nevada Camp Fire Relief Fund--check out local breweries like 21st Amendment who are participating.

ICYMI — Indivisible gets offensive

Okay, that sounded better in our head, but now that the Blue Wave has put Dems in control of the House in '19, we're pivoting from defense to advancing an alternative vision for the country rooted in democracy, inclusion, and respect. Read all about it here.

We Could Not Make This Up

The world watched as the Stumbler in Chief visited the devastation in Butte County and twice forked up the name of Paradise while insisting that better forestry begins at Home Depot. Nobody took any pleasure in his gaffe, least of all the thousands of displaced and bereaved residents. And speaking of not taking pleasure in things: the hits keep coming on MS Senator and runoff candidate Cindy Hyde-Smith, this time photos from her FB page show her posing with Confederate artifacts with the caption “Mississippi history at its best!” Meanwhile back at the ranch, a familiar story in the news: the Second First Lady of the White House used a private email account to send out thousands of government business emails. But what about her ... oh never mind.
