There's still time to cut taxes for 2018
If you haven't maximized your retirement savings and tax deductions for 2018 there's still time. If you or your spouse have a traditional IRA or Roth IRA you have up until April 15th to contribute up to $5,500 ($6,500 if you're 50 or older) each into an IRA or Roth IRA and have it count for this year.

The benefits of a traditional IRA are reduced taxes meaning more money working for you towards your retirement. A ROTH, on the other hand, doesn't give you a tax break now, but gives you tax free income when you retire. If you don't have one set up yet, let us help.

The best gift of all

If you're like most it can be challenging to figure out what to give your spouse for Christmas. Beyond all the gadgets and latest gizmos why not consider giving them something out of the ordinary, yet probably most important: life insurance. Most of us will spend weeks planning a vacation, yet how much time do we spend on planning our life and how our family would carry on if something should happen to us.

Life insurance gives you and your family peace of mind in the event of your untimely death, but it also gives you supplemental tax-free income upon retirement. Consider it life insurance you don't have to die to use. What better way to show how much you love them? Let us show you how helpful and affordable it can be.

  Save a little now
to have much more later

Setting a little money aside now to plan for a comfortable retirement later  often feels  like an inconvenience. We're often told so by the media and advertisers, who simply want us to spend, spend and then spend some more. Face it, none of us have  been properly educated on saving in the past or present, let alone the future. We've all been educated on how to spend money. In fact, we started being educated way back when we were kids.
I remember going to the store with my mom and going down the cereal aisle. I would tug at her skirt to buy a particular brand of cereal because of the cool toy inside. Likewise, back in the late sixties and early seventies gas stations not only catered to mom and dad by filling up their tank, washing the car windshield and checking the oil without anyone getting out of the car, but they also catered to kids by offering some neat gizmo  along with a "fill-up." By the time college rolled around most of us had the coolest stereo system, a car and clothes. That's what we learned about money- how to spend it, not save it.
Fast forward 30,35 or 40 years later.  Nothing much has changed. Sure technology has exploded, but so has everyone's personal debt. Take time to set a little money aside now. Learn to save rather than spend. Earn interest rather than pay interest. Like having a baby, there is never a convenient time to do it. But in doing so you'll be well on the way to a comfortable retirement rather than an uncomfortable alternative.

Waite a minute
By Jim Waite

Christmas growing up was always so magical- decorating the Christmas Tree, listening to classic Christmas songs, smelling the sweet aroma of freshly baked cookies, and going through the old Sear's catalog circling all the cool toys  a kid could ever dream of. Presents were under the tree and I'd always try to shake, smell, try to see through the wrapping paper- anything to figure out what was inside. Christmas morning I was never disappointed.  I could never figure out how Santa could get around to all the houses on the planet in just one night without ever messing up an order. I figured Mrs. Claus must have had something to do with keeping Santa on task, on time,  and  well organized.
Unlike past years growing up, this Christmas will be much different. For that matter, this past year has been much different. This will be the first Christmas in 36 years of marriage that my wife and I have been apart.  I know there are men and women in the service who spend many Christmases apart from each other. There are police, firemen, doctors and a wide array of service employees who give up Christmas with their loved ones every year to protect us, rescue us, and heal us.
This Christmas, our youngest son, Ethan, told Santa that his only Christmas wish was to get rid of his cancer and to be able to walk again on his own foot. A humble request for an 11-year-old boy. No video games, computer gadgets or latest technological gizmos. Just something that the rest of us take for granted. In August he was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a very rare, yet aggressive, bone cancer in his left tibia (ankle). Doctors here in California insisted that amputation was the only sure way to rid him of  it. Through divine intervention we sought a second opinion, which directed us across country to New York City and the top cancer hospital in the country (if not the world) for Ethan's type of cancer. Last week a 12-hour  surgery was performed to remove his cancer and save his foot. through  regeneration  of his own bone. It was not by accident that we were directed to the only doctor in the country who pioneered this limb-lengthening procedure several years ago. The surgery was successful. The cancer is gone and Ethan has already began walking after just a week- on his own foot.
So with Christmas upon us, take time to actually love your loved ones. We don't call them "loved ones" just by accident. I've learned that things don't just happen by accident either. Miracles abound. I know. Our family has witnessed many of them and been blessed by countless angels here on earth. So enjoy decorating the tree, listening to the classic Christmas songs, and polishing off that last sugar cookie. In the meantime, also take a break and appreciate life. Appreciate the simple things we often take for granted. Appreciate and be grateful for He whose birth we celebrate. Time is short. The older we get the shorter our Christmas list gets. We realize that the things we truly want money can't buy.  Just like an 11-year-old, may your Christmas wish be just that- a miracle.
