Epping Forest CSP supports face-to-face crime prevention
initiative in Chigwell

The Epping Forest Community Safety Partnership has supported a face-to-face crime prevention campaign which has seen police call at homes in Chigwell.
Friday afternoon's 'Secure, Protect, Prevent' initiative involved Essex Police operational officers, PCSOs, Special Constables, Police Cadets and Essex Police Active Citizens as well as Essex County Fire and Rescue Service representatives.
Heather Gurden, Strategic Designing Out Crime Manager with Essex Police, said the campaign aims to raise awareness of darker nights and to get people to take precautions around their own homes now it gets darker earlier.
The team targeted various roads in the Chigwell area which had been flagged up as having seen an above average number of burglaries over the past three years.
The teams offered crime prevention advice on matters such as door and window locks and fire safety.
Advice was also given regarding potential landscaping issues, such as hedges which could be cut back to reduce areas where burglars could hide, and bins which could have been left next to fences and which could be used as climbing aids for intruders.
The Epping Forest Community Safety Partnership Team has already provided faraday bags - for the owners of press button ignition vehicles to keep their key fobs in - and light timers to local Community Policing Team staff to hand out.
Community Safety Manager Caroline Wiggins said: "One of the Community Safety Partnership’s priorities is reducing dwelling burglary in the district.
"This initiative is an excellent example of a variety of partners working together to achieve this objective.”
