Dec 12 Holiday Dinner & Annual Meeting. Ring in the holiday season with your bike bell and your bicycling buds at the RBC holiday dinner and annual meeting.
After some brief pre-dinner bike business to vote on the proposed slate of 2019 RBC Board members, we'll sup and sip to our 2018 successes and chat up plans for the new year. Dinner costs will be split among attendees. The restaurant is BYOB, so come prepared. Please register at RocklandBike.org, so we can tell the restaurant how much space to reserve.

 Better Bicycling coming to an off-road path near you: Orangetown added to its bike network this fall with the opening of the JB Clark Rail Trail Extension from Lowes near Rt 303 to Western Highway by the Blauvelt Library.
The Greenbush Rd Bike Bypass, which will provide a safer route for cyclists on a short but dangerous stretch of Rt 303, has been cleared. Next step is paving prior to an anticipated Spring 2019 opening.
- Award Winning Bicycle Advocacy in Rockland: The Greater Nyack Bike Walk Master Plan, a six month study of bike/ped usage in the Nyack river villages and Nyack School district, won the 2018 American Planning Association NY Chapter Meritorious Achievement Award. Three RBC members served on the steering committee for this project funded by the New NY Bridge Community Benefits Fund. ICYMI, highlights of the study were presented at the Sept 2018 RBC monthly meeting.

This month in Bicycling History:  Bike clubs have a long history in Rockland County. In the late 19th century, bike clubs, some in bloomers, some in straw bowlers, were known to ride up from New York City, take the ferry to Nyack and pedal up to Hook Mountain on unpaved roads.
