Opening Times Over Christmas

The VAS office at John Street will close at 4.30pm on Friday 21st December, and will reopen at 9:30am on Wednesday 2nd January.

The main Sanford House reception and Citizens Advice Swindon reception at Sanford House will close at 1pm on Monday 24th December, and will reopen at 9:30am on Tuesday 2nd January. From all at VAS, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!


Swindon 105.5

Swindon 105.5 is Swindon's only 24/7 Community Radio Station. Would you like to tell their listeners about your organisation - who you are, what you do, how volunteers get involved, how you raise funds, and your upcoming events? Local Charities Day - 14th December

Local Charities Day builds on the work of the recently published Civil Society Strategy, where the Office for Civil Society committed to enhancing relationships between businesses, charities and local areas, to help communities grow. Each year Local Charities Day shines a spotlight on the incredible work local charities do to build healthy and happy local communities.

There are lots of ways you can champion the work you do and support the day. There is a toolkit you can download from the Local Charity Day website, linked below.

Big Issue Invest, offers social enterprises and charities a range of repayable finance options, from loans as small as £20,000 to larger investments of up to £3 million as well as corporate mentoring and investment programmes designed for early stage social businesses.

The Will Charitable Trust

The Will Charitable Trust provides capital grants up to £30,000 for UK registered charities for activities in the fields of services for blind people, long-term care of people with learning disabilities, and the care of and services for people suffering from cancer. Next application deadline for blind people and learning disabilities is 31st January 2019. Projects supported by the Trust are expected to provide a level of match funding.

Volunteer Support Officer at Healthwatch Swindon

Healthwatch Swindon, part of The Care Forum, are recruiting for a Volunteer Support Officer. Main tasks include: developing a team of volunteers to grow and lead the Healthwatch project; supporting the volunteers to contribute to programmes or pieces of health and social care related work; extending and diversifying the reach of volunteer recruitment; and working to motivate and retain recruited volunteers. The post is 18.5 hours per week, £22,401 – £25,463 pro rata (NJC 24-28). Closing date for applications is 10th December 2018 at 9am.

Independent Advocate – Statutory Advocacy at Swindon Advocacy Movement

Swindon Advocacy Movement are looking for an Independent Advocate for their Care Act Advocacy Service working with people with care and support needs. SAM has created a flexible and responsive accessible advocacy service enabling people to participate as fully as possible in any decision to maintain their independence and secure the rights and services they are entitled to. SAM are looking for a qualified Independent Advocate or someone who is interested in developing a career in advocacy and standing up for the rights of others. They offer a complete package of support, supervision and training including City & Guilds level 3 Independent Advocacy unit 301. This is a fixed term 18 month contract.

Project Coordinator at Dolphins’ Den

Dolphins’ Den is an initiative that supports people with a learning disability to set up their own business. They run a series of workshops followed by one-to-one mentoring by volunteer mentors from the local business community.

The Dolphins’ Den Project Coordinator position is a unique opportunity for someone with high attention to detail and coordination and administration experience to take on a new challenge! You will be helping to satisfy rigorous ESF and Big Lottery funding requirements by gathering participant documentation and completing monthly financial claims. You will also support the Project Lead to run fun and interactive monthly workshops for people with a learning disability around Swindon and Wiltshire, so good communication and people skills are essential.
