Lutheran Disaster Response is working with Lutheran Social Services of Southern California, Lutheran Social Services of Northern California, and the California synods to respond to the wildfires which are raging across California. Your gifts will be used to assist those affected by the wildfires until the response is complete. Get more information at church or give online.
The Advent Dinner & Variety Show is Sunday, December 2, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The fare will be smoked hams and fried turkeys by the Men's Group, potato dishes and bread by the Fellowship Committee, and potluck (A–M vegetable sides and N–Z desserts). And... Whether you sing, dance, tell jokes, play an instrument, or just want to be on stage, we invite you to perform. Sign up at the Fellowship kiosk for the meal and to perform.
Survey results. 157 members of AGLC responded to the recent member survey. This is an amazing response rate considering that our recent Sunday worship attendance has ranged from 180 to 200 people, including children. The linked document summarizes the survey results in the following categories:
  • Who we are
  • How we worship
  • Our faith walk
  • Our programming and ministries
The document also outlines how the Church Council has incorporated the survey responses into our recent planning effort. The Church Council conducted several planning sessions during the past months, reviewing statistics on membership, giving, and committee activity; discussing vision and mission; reviewing survey results; establishing areas of focus; and discussing staffing needs. The report is at http://go.abidinggracedfw.org/survey2018
Culinary angels needed. Please consider joining our volunteer list to help with meals. As Lutherans, we are good at delivering food in times of need. It is a great comfort and help to our fellow members to receive a meal when a need arises. When help is needed, a group email goes out and whoever is available to help, responds (we understand it won't always work in your schedule). Thank you for considering this growing outreach, and please contact Martha Looft if you are interested or have questions.
Christmas Poinsettias. You can buy a Christmas poinsettia to help decorate the chancel area this Advent/Christmas season. The cost is $10 per plant—please pay by placing a check in the offering plate marked “Poinsettias.” Sign up at the Worship kiosk by this Sunday, November 25, which is the last day to order. You can dedicate your plant in honor or memory of a loved one on the sign-up sheet.
Our college students. If you would like to send good thoughts, encouragement, prayers, or a simple hello to Abiding Grace's thirteen college students, we've made it easy. Stop by the Member Care kiosk and pick up pre-addressed labels (there is an envelope of labels for each student). Put a label (and stamp) on a note or card and send them off. As our students near the end of the semester, we're sure kind thoughts from their church family would be welcomed and appreciated.
Grace Café is a program led by Jesse Grimmer and Laura Hopkins to raise money for our youth programs. Our youth comprise the capable wait staff for these amazing dinners. The next Grace Café is Saturday, December 8, at the home of Paul and Lisa Harrington. The suggested donation is $50/person with the entire amount going to support the youth. Dinners are limited to 10 guests, so join in the fun by signing up soon at church or by contacting Taylor.
Advent devotional. If you are interested in writing an Advent devotion this year which will be emailed to members during Advent, please contact Pastor Nick.
We received this grateful note from Pastor Nicholaus of the TGCWC orphanage in Tanzania. AGLC members donated funds last month to purchase 100 chickens to help make the orphanage more self-sufficient. For more information, please visit tgcwchildren.org.
“Thank You” are two small words with immense appreciation and gratitude to this wonderful group, along with Jerry Court (smoking meat), Bill Rose (room set-up), and Vanessa Crixell (audio/visual). Your contributions guaranteed another successful BRAVE Special Olympics Banquet. Volunteering permits these special needs athletes, their families, and coaches to enjoy an evening celebrating a year of athletic accomplishments. Your time and talent helping others is truly priceless! Thank you! —Kim Haggerty
Ornament exchange. Calling all ladies, Kim Riley is hosting the annual ornament exchange on Tuesday, December 11, at her home. Please bring a new, wrapped ornament to exchange and a salad, appetizer, or dessert to share. Details can be found at the Fellowship kiosk.
