November continues to be a busy month, with more important events taking place near the end of this month. Consequently, another newsletter comes your way so you don't miss out on finding about some upcoming workshops.
I'd like to direct you to the many interesting ISE ECP CDF 2018 funded Activities that are taking place in the next week or so. Some of these include the Mapping in Minutes: Textron/RMIT Grand Challenge championed by Suelynn Choy, Michelle Gee and Matt Duckham, Smart Energy Systems Workshop on 22 November by Mahdi Jalili and the Exploring the urban understorey with 3D data @RMIT Workshop on 26 November by Luke Wallace.
Spatial Capability Cluster @RMIT (SCCAR) has been quite busy with several of its events including a very successful FrontierSI workshop held earlier this month and its forthcoming event, Place and Space: Indigenous Knowledge and Innovation in Geospatial Technologies on 20 November.
The number of registrations for the RMIT's Engaging For Impact 2019 is increasing quite quickly. Place and Space: Indigenous Knowledge and
Innovation in Geospatial Technologies

You are invited to attend the Place and Space: Indigenous Knowledge and Innovation in Geospatial Technologies workshop, which will draw upon our unique indigenous history and connections. This SCCAR Workshop aims to bring together researchers from across all disciplines at the university with interests at the intersection of human knowledge of place and spatial technologies. Some previous approaches to our workshop topic area have attempted first to identify problems faced by indigenous people connected with knowledge of place, and then to develop new spatial technologies that aim to “fix” those problems. This workshop aims to focus on indigenous innovation and technologies as solutions, as a basis then to begin to “fix” the problems, witting or unwitting, caused by spatial technologies.

Exploring the urban understorey
with 3D data @RMIT

3D data is becoming an increasingly ubiquitous tool to describe our surroundings. A key area seeing rapid uptake of this technology is within Urban Forest inventories with 3D data being collected to populate urban tree databases. The quality of this data has proven to offer unrivalled accuracy and completeness in support of a range of management and scientific objectives.
Researchers at RMIT's School of Science have demonstrated the potential of 3D data to map the understorey of vegetation in native and plantation forests. They have been able to accurately identify and describe vertical strata, plant type, fuel characteristics and abundance.
The Exploring the urban understorey with 3D data @ RMIT workshop aims to bring together key industry and government decision makers from across the country with RMIT researchers using 3D data for vegetation management to identify an approach that will translate ongoing research into real world outcomes.

RMIT Europe invites you to their workshop, Tips on accessing European research funding schemes.
Boaz Kogan, Innovation and Research Associate at RMIT Europe will lead this workshop, which is designed for researchers who have already submitted, or are thinking of submitting in 2019, proposals for European research funding, such as to the Horizon 2020 research and innovation funding scheme. This workshop aims to improve their application skills and will include ample time for questions from attendees.
The recent Frontier SI workshop held by the Spatial Capability Cluster @RMIT (SCCAR) was hugely successful and well attended by RMIT staff and industry partners. There was a fabulous showcase by Frontier SI, partners DELWP, Position Partners, and Symbolix and RMIT. University.
