Hello to all of our KND followers – artists, wave-makers, and dance-lovers.
We hope that you are all staying warm in this lead-up to Christmas
and are starting to enjoy that warm, cosy feeling!

What have we been up to at KND?
  • This autumn, Kerry started her role at the Rambert School as Choreographic Mentor – she hopes to offer support and encouragement to these budding young choreographers within the school. She has already enjoyed meeting 18 driven artists and it has been a joy to crystalise some of their innovative and daring ideas.
  • The International Day of the Girl event is part of the global WOW – Women of the World festival movement, which is now bringing together women and men in five continents to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of women and girls, take a frank look at the obstacles they still face, and discuss how we can take-action to make the world a fairer place for women. Kerry was thrilled to be invited again by the Southbank to be a mentor for this event. It proved to be an inspirational morning. Kerry met girls with great clarity and questioning, and the whole event was a fantastic opportunity to meet with other fabulous mentors.
  • Kerry has continued as Module Leader for the Royal Ballet School Degree programme (Contemporary Technique) for the second year. She has enjoyed meeting the vibrant group of new 1st years and looks forward to seeing the development of the Contemporary strand within the feisty 2nd Year cohort.
  • In October, we led a Career Development weekend for Joss Arnott Dance. Working with 50+ early graduates or final year students over the two days, Kerry enjoyed the determination and courageous work of all who attended.
  • On a rainy weekend this month, Kerry travelled to Swindon for a weekend creation process with Swindon Youth Dance Company. It was an incredibly rapid process but she enjoyed the dancers’ lively energy and congratulations to all for rising to the challenge.
What’s happened inside KND recently?
  • KND celebrated its’ 6th Birthday in September. Here are some words that our community offered when asked to describe KND:
supportive, community, powerful, intrepid, inspirational, motivational, passionate, generous, incomparable, empowering, generous, self-development, care.
Thank you for this golden praise - we’ve pocketed it and stored it so as to
propel us forwards into 2019.
  • We held our last week-long Professional Masterclass Series for 2018 at Lanterns Studio Theatre. It proved to be an exciting week with sold-out classes. We reached 71 professional artists who participated across the week – and we also supported some of these artists with 1-to-1 Creative Coaching attached, so as to achieve full immersion into the work.
  • KND enjoyed an away-break to Dorset to plan together and formalise our 2019 activity. We enjoyed three days of brainstorming and dreaming by the sea. We are looking forward to telling you more of our future plans in our next newsletter.
  • We have continued to coach and mentor independent artists worldwide – including emerging and established professional artists. These include returners and new faces - and we are loving how this strand of our work is escalating and that we are able to support more of you in this way.
 KND News!
  • KND has been announced as one of the Artistic Associates for the West Midlands DX/SAMPAD: Centre for Advanced Training (CAT).  For the 10thAnniversary of the CAT scheme, DX have appointed 3 Artistic Associates to head each discipline of their CAT – Contemporary, Bharatanatyam and Kathak. KND are leading Dance Generation, alongside Shane Shambu and Aakash Odedra who will lead on the South Asian strands. Kerry met the CAT group last month and is eager to be working with them in a more sustained way in 2019!
  • We are excited to announce that we have welcomed a new member to our Advisory Board. Edward Watson OBE and Principal of the Royal Ballet, has joined our other illustrious and valued advisors. Of the appointment, Edward says – “I’m so happy and honoured to be associated with Kerry Nicholls Dance. Kerry is such a positive force, offering guidance, support and security to artists striving to make a difference in dance today.”
We are thrilled to have Edward amongst us and loved his contribution at our recent Advisory Board meeting.

Looking ahead to 2019!
  • Kerry is now preparing for a stimulating research month in the USA in January. She is thrilled to be spending time with both Liz Lerman and Gina Gibney to meet minds and share best practice - and will visit Yale, Harvard and Juilliard. It’s a fun-packed month and we will share more details on her return!
  • KND will lead a Creative Coaching programme and workshop at Diana Vishneva’s CONTEXT Festival in Moscow and St Petersburg (Russia).
  • We will curate and deliver a week-long Choreographic Mentoring Programme for the South African Dance Trust, at Artscape Theatre Complex (the world-class opera house) in Cape Town. This will be our first time in South Africa and we are looking forward to meeting artists over there.
  • Kerry will return to adjudicate at the Vibe Festival, Vienna in Austria in April.
  • Continuing our relationship with Beijing Dance Academy in China, we will be conducting a residency including teaching technique and choreography to graduating students.
  • In the UK, we are aiming to continue delivering work of relevance and value to you all – whatever stage of your career. We are also planning to add three new strands to our KND portfolio of opportunities. So, watch this space!
A BIG THANK YOU!

A warm thank you for the insightful input and words of encouragement shared within all of our evaluation forms throughout the year. If you haven’t had a chance to send us your thoughts, we would welcome them with or without an evaluation form!

We appreciate your support and are energised by your comments, interest and feedback. We love being part of this community of creative artists and are committed to getting more of your best work out in the world in 2019!

An accustomed quote to send you on your way,
"You can't depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus..."

Wishing you a fantastic lead-up to the festive season,
