Experts from the leading edge of bioeconomy gather together in the outstanding nature of northeast Finland for roundtable discussions at the second ever World BioEconomy Forum in September 2019!

Program Updates - Panel Moderators
Program for World BioEconomy Forum 2019 is progressing steadily, and the moderators for the panels have now been confirmed!

Dr Christian Patermann, "Father" of the European bioeconomy, will be moderating the first panel, "Implementing Biostrategies". Building on what was discussed in World BioEconomy Forum 2018, the focus of the biostrategy panel will now be on the implementation of biostrategies worldwide.


Aida Greenbury, a global Sustainability Advisor, will moderate the second panel, "Forests mitigating climate change". In the panel, experts on forestry and association representatives will be discussing climate change attributes and what is the role of forests now and in the future.


Mark Rushton, Forest Media Consultant and Senior Editor, will be moderating the third panel of the event, the "CEO Panel", in which CEOs from several organizations come together to discuss how to steer a company in the momentum-gaining field of bioeconomy.

Mika Aalto, the CEO of the Chemical Industry Federation of Finland, will be moderating the fourth panel, "Circular Bioeconomy", in which enterprise representatives will be discussing holistic valorization of biomass, including topics such as improving material efficiency and exploitation of side streams.


The fifth panel, "Evolving value chains based on bio-feedstocks", will be moderated by Michael Carus, the founder of nova-Institute. This year's focus is on the case of plastics: status of bio-based plastics, biodegradability of materials, and new evolving technologies.
Speaker Updates



Tomi Honkala, the CEO of Chempolis Ltd, will join the fourth panel to discuss biorefinery technologies, their sustainable applications and how they can be implemented around the world.



Mario Bonaccorso, the founder and Editor in Chief of Il Bioeconomista, will be joining the first panel to give his insights into the biostrategy implementation in Italy.
