Fall Blessings and Beginnings

Happy fall to our friends and family. Although I see that some of you are already enjoying (maybe, haha) your first snow, Tokyo is only just beginning to get cooler temperatures. I've decided that fall is my favorite season in Japan. It's such a relief after the long hot summers; there's beautiful fall foliage, persimmon, yuzu and mandarin orange trees heavy with their fruit, wonderful temperate days for walks and enjoying the outdoors... You should come see for yourself!:)

We've had a wonderfully blessed fall after our busy summer travels. This month we were so happy to have two friends and my sister come stay with us for a visit. It was such a joy to have them here to catch up, to introduce them to Maye and show them a little around Tokyo. Amy has visited Japan twice before, but it was the first time for our friends Nick and Dianna. This year has been a little wearisome not going to the States to visit any friends or family as we had been able to do the previous two years, so I can't express how grateful we were for the visit.

As I mentioned in our last newsletter, this last month we began two different outreach programs with Machida Church of Christ. Travis and Tim Turner have been hosting their English Bible study weekly, and I am excited to say that only one of the 6 attendees is already a Christian! The other members have been connected with the group through our summer English outreach program, by fliers or through word of mouth. We are excited about the opportunities to reach these attendees, and pray also for more to begin the study.

I also hosted our first English cooking class with Haruka Otsuka at the beginning of the month. Although I had an ingredient mix up, (bought baking powder instead of soda!), the class went well for our first time. We had 6 attendees, again, none of the attendees were church members! I had scheduled three classes, the last in December, and had planned to see how the classes were received, and if they were well attended enough, to continue next year. I plan to do so!

Please be in prayer for those we come in contact with at the new classes as well as on a day to day basis in our community.

2019 Plans

As we mentioned last month, one of our goals for the next year is to increase our support base and monthly giving to facilitate the needs of our family's growing budget. We had also mentioned that we were hoping to send Naomi to Kindergarten/ preschool to develop her Japanese skills this next school year which starts in the spring. After praying, looking into schools and looking at our budget, we decided it would be more prudent to wait until the following year and spend next year fundraising to be able to better afford her schooling.

Please pray with us as we follow God's direction for our lives here in Tokyo, and endeavor to raise more funds to support our family. It is not something that Travis or I feel adept in, but it is a necessity for us to remain on the field. Please pray and consider sharing our ministry with those you know that may be interested in coming alongside us. Please pray as we plan for a possible trip back to the U.S. next year to visit supporters and seek to increase our monthly income.

Blessings in Christ,
Becky
