A Special Two Week Series

Why Grace Matters

The next two Sundays Sid will be preaching on the subject of
"Why Grace Matters."

The first Sunday, November 18th--his message will be on the topic of "If Grace Is True." At Trinity we talk a lot about Original Blessing--that all of us are imprints of the divine goodness in the universe. We will explore the idea of Original Blessing through the lenses of John Wesley's ideas of Prevenient Grace, Justifying Grace, and Sanctifying Grace, and why these 18th Century concepts still have relevance for us today. As part of this ritual, we will also celebrate the baptism and confirmation of some of our Trinity youth. Trinity's Earth Band will perform a song by the band U2.

The second Sunday--November 25th (the Sunday closest to Thanksgiving)--we will explore what it means, especially in these perilous times, to live with a grateful heart. Our Trinity Celebration Choir will provide an anthem that helps us discover that deep place of grace and gratitude for our lives.

Come join us for the celebrations!

Diaper Drive

The Trinity United Methodist Women are sponsoring a baby diaper and baby wipes drive to benefit Hope Food Pantry.  Many of the Pantry’s clients are parents with infants or young toddlers, or grandparents who are raising grandchildren or providing daytime childcare for their grandchildren.  Providing these families with diapers and baby wipes is an important part of the service that Hope Food Pantry offers.  The Pantry relies solely on donations of these items in order to have a supply available for distribution.  Diaper sizes needed are from newborn to size 5, BUT PARTICULARLY sizes 4 and 5 because they are the most requested sizes.  You can bring your donated diapers and wipes beginning November 11 through November 25 and place them in the designated bin in the narthex.  Thank you for helping with this important assistance to the families served by Hope Food Pantry.

 Austin Sanctuary Network

Want to help raise bond money for two women held at the T. Don Hutto private detention center?  Come this Sunday, November 18 from 6 to 11 PM to the Spider House Ballroom at 2908 Fruth (29th and Guadalupe) for a Bailroom Blitz.   Suggested donation is $10. All proceeds, including merchandise sales, will benefit Grassroot Leadership's Hutto Community Deportation and Bond Fund. A former Hutto detainee will speak.   Experience an eclectic array of musicians: Javier Jara (Ecuadoran folksinger), Sacred Cowgirls (Bollywood cover group), Bird Casino (rock), and Maracatú Texas (Brazilian percussion) as well as three comedians.  Please come for at least part of the time and thereby help immigrant women re-unite with their families.

Sign and share the new ecumenical pledge to support and welcome asylum seekers (aka caravan migrants): Sign the pledge.   This follows a presidential proclamation that attempts to ban asylum seekers who do not try to come through a port of entry.  The latter is an illegal and unethical action that disregards the jammed and dysfunctional ports of entry with staff practices that too often refuse asylum seekers, among other things.  The UMC link is here (full link: http://fpl.actionkit.com/sign/pledge-solidarity-asylees?source=umcgbcs).
