FROM CLEVELAND AGO DEAN TIMOTHY ROBSON

Timothy RobsonDear AGO Colleagues,

It is the time of year that we give thanks for the blessings that we receive: for first responders: police, firefighters, EMS medics; for nurses and doctors, technicians, aides, and housekeepers, who work without complaint on behalf of their patients; for teachers and academics; for plumbers, who get called from their own families to unstop a drain that hasn’t been used for cooking since last Thanksgiving; for those forced to work on Thanksgiving Day at retail outlets. But we also are thankful for clergy and musicians at religious institutions, who often must work on holidays to bring joy and solace to their congregations. You can add your own blessings to this list.

This is a final reminder about the chapter’s November event at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, tomorrow night. There is more information below.

Finally, there were many AGO members present for the memorial service last Saturday morning in honor of Walter “Chick” Holtkamp. There were spoken words of tribute, and musical tributes in solo organ music played by David Higgs, and fantastic hymn accompaniments by John Ferguson. It was a beautifully moving tribute to an organ builder with unparalleled visual design skills, and whose work (as Professor Ferguson pointed out in his comments) left an indelible mark on organs in the second half of the twentieth century. RIP Chick.

Happy Thanksgiving,
Tim
