Join us this Saturday, November 17th at Anacostia Park for our monthly walk at 10:00 a.m.  Situated along the eastern shore of the Anacostia River, Anacostia Park and Poplar Point are prime spots for viewing waterfowl, raptors, gulls, and other fall birds like kinglets, waxwings, and juncos.  Just to get you ready for Thanksgiving, it's also one of the few spots in DC where Wild Turkeys are found! As always, please wear appropriate clothing and be aware of your surroundings. Get your ducks in a row and register here. 

On December 15th at 8:00 a.m., we'll be participating in the annual Christmas Bird Count at Battery Kemble Park.  This is the longest-running community science program in the world.  We hope to see lots of woodland species including woodpeckers, kinglets, and sparrows. Registration will go live two weeks before the event here. 

Plants for Birds:  More Necessary than Ever

A new study has shown that non-native plants are actually harmful to and can endanger the lives of birds. This first-of-its-kind study looked at the DC-VA-MD region, emphasizing the need for native plants in our area if we want DC to be a welcoming home for birds.  Learn more about Audubon's Plants for Birds program, and how you can make your home more bird-friendly, here.
