Seed Library

We are busy planning our Seed Library for the next season starting in February. We are excited to be partnering with Richmond Public Library to bring our Seed Library to you!

Look out for upcoming dates for Seed Library sessions, as well as workshops focused on saving a variety of different seeds, as well as how to start seeds and test germination.

We’ll also be recruiting for seed librarians who have some knowledge of seeds and gardening and who want to be part of conserving seed diversity. Training will be provided and the ability to transport our seed library is important. A full volunteer description will be available soon.

Seedy Saturday

Mark your calendars for March 2nd, 2019. We are hosting the 10th annual Seedy Saturday at the Thompson Community Centre (to be confirmed). We have an exciting day planned with presentations and a workshop. Learn how to start your garden, what it is like to be a small-scale farmer in Richmond, and the greater ecological importance of saving seeds.

Plant and garden vendors from across Richmond will attend, so you can get a jump start on your garden.

Bring seeds and swap them out, or sign-out seeds from our Seed Library. It will be a day to share knowledge and meet like-minded individuals focused on conserving our plant future!

Community Gardens

We had a great season in our community gardens this year and I want to thank all the gardeners’ hard work! From squash to cabbage to brussel sprouts, we saw it all lovingly grown in our gardens.

As we have wrapped up our season, we want to encourage gardeners to keep thinking about what they can over winter, or start growing now.

Make sure you plant your garlic now for a harvest in July, and applying leaves or leaf mulch to the bases of your plants will help protect them from the frost. A garden is always growing, and if you prepare it for the frost, you can garden all year.

Land Acknowledgement

We strive to be leaders in our community and be committed to food justice. Part of that is maintaining a set of community best practices, like acknowledging that we are settlers on this land and operate on unceded and unsurrendered Coast Salish territory. If you know of a land acknowledgement that stands out, or have an idea for one that could become apart of our practice, please send it our way.
