Bridging the Gap Between 12 Step Groups
and Churches of all Denominations

Awareness

do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Romans 12:2

From the Director – Latest statistics show a drop in life expectancy 2 years in a row, led by increases in suicide, opioid overdose, and alcohol abuse - "diseases of despair". The world can seem to be hopeless and unforgiving, yet we are called to be instruments of God's Peace, bringing light to the darkness, as God would have us do. We make ourselves available for God to work through us.
I find the best way for me to be truly available to Him is to be aware of Him, but that's not easy for me. I'm challenged daily by the clamors of this world. My calendar app on the smart phone does not show Thanksgiving as a holiday, but does show Black Friday as a "special" day. I find that a little disturbing, as I feel that now, more than ever, I need to be thankful for what I have, not regretting what I don't have, since all I have is from God, not from anything I did, but all He is doing.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Philippians 4:8

When I think of how much I am loved by God, my Creator, I am filled with such joy, peace, and most of all, gratitude. Then I become aware that God loves me and "there's nothing I can do about it", Amazing.

Step 11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

How gracious he will be when you cry for help! As soon as he hears, he will answer you. … Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it."

Isaiah 30:19-21

Seek - to try to achieve or obtain something
Prayer - something that is wanted or hoped for very much
Meditation - think about something carefully, calmly, seriously, and for some time

Now we try to be in closer contact with God by regularly talking to Him (praying) and listening to Him (meditation). We seek what God desires us to be and what He desires to be for us. As our relationship with God improves, we understand His will for us and come to rely on His direction and guidance.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Proverbs 9:10

At first we approach in awe and wonderment, and as we gain knowledge through study of the Word and daily reflection upon it we apply this knowledge in our daily walk, with wonderful results. We begin to “understand” God as how His will manifests in our lives. This is the result of our personal relationship with Jesus – a relationship we strive to expand with frequent quiet time and prayer, and one that is personal to each individual. We don’t ask God to do things “our way” but instead seek to know only what He would have us do, one day at a time, even one moment at a time. We trust He will provide us with the strength necessary to carry out His bidding.

He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

 Micah 6:8

A Prayer for Awareness
God always gets His way ... Always. Everything we have is from above, and is His Will. Our trials, victories, accomplishments, defeats, our vey existence comes by His Grace. We can serve Him when we seek to know what He would have us do.
"...
for it is God who works in youto will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose."
Philippians 2:13
Our awareness of His direction and guidance brings much joy. Let's pray:

Father in heaven, we ask You now to show us how to serve Your good purpose. Guide and direct us to use the gifts You have given us to help one another, all for Your Glory. We give thanks to you, Father, for your love and all the blessings you pour out upon us to share with others. May we be transformed to servants in the likeness of Your Son. In Jesus’ precious name we pray for this.
Amen
