Giving is Good for....Everyone! :-)
Join Us TODAY on #GivingTuesday!

Holiday Greetings!

As the end of 2018 nears, we look back on a year full of many challenges we have responded to and advocated for on behalf of Medicare beneficiaries. We are also grateful for the support many of you have given us over the years, as your support enables us to pursue and fulfill our mission to protect the rights of Medicare beneficiaries. Your continued support and donation during #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving back, will propel our good work forward into 2019 and beyond.

Challenges & Successes
While Medicare continues to be attacked in Washington D.C., we have had some successes in the past year. For example, together with other advocacy partners, California Health Advocates (CHA) was instrumental in persuading the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to extend their time-limited equitable relief from Medicare Part B penalties for one more year, now set to expire September 30, 2019. In addition, we successfully advocated for a permanent fix so that after September 30, 2019, future affected beneficiaries will be able to apply for relief at any time. This will positively impact numerous beneficiaries and prevent them from facing thousands of dollars in tax penalties they would have without this extension. Eligible beneficiaries include people who are in Marketplace plans and missed signing up for Medicare Part B during their Special Enrollment.

Currently, Congress holds several efforts to change Medicare as we know it. Your generous donation will help us continue our work to ensure Medicare benefits are protected for you and our future generations. California Health Advocates is also actively involved in securing California’s plan for a comprehensive system of Long Term Services and Supports for older adults and people with disabilities.

California’s devastating wildfires have also put tremendous pressure on resources available to help beneficiaries during Medicare’s Open Enrollment. CHA plays a major role in supporting beneficiaries in this time through our work with the Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program (HICAP). HICAP, available in every county, provides one-on-one advocacy and assistance on Medicare questions and issues, such as Open Enrollment, claims denials, guarantee rights to purchase Medicare Supplements, long-term care insurance challenges and more. We provide HICAP with trainings, technical support, educational materials, fact sheets, policy advocacy and updates, support with beneficiary claims issues, and interpretations of CMS regulations.

Your generous donation of $35, $50, or $100 or more will ensure we continue providing these needed resources and fulfill our mission of protecting the healthcare rights of our state’s 5.6+ million Medicare beneficiaries. For those of you on Facebook, you can give through our Facebook campaign. There, the complete donation amounts go directly to CHA (no percentage is taken out).

The holidays give us an opportunity to make a difference. Thank you in advance for your gift and your generosity! Together we make a stronger Medicare and a better world!

On behalf our Board of Directors, Thank you!
