Hi Friend,
I rarely write about the same topic each month but a shocking statistic forced my hand.
Almost 40% of the public appears to think that cancer can be cured without conventional, evidence-based treatments according to an ASCO survey. Those who follow through with this opinion have increased death rates and lower quality of life.
Misinformation about cancer care is rampant and a growing problem.
Unfortunately, most oncologists aren't sufficiently educated on the topic either. Most oncologists know nothing about evidence-based complementary treatments that can help cancer patients, like acupuncture for neuropathy and fatigue. Even fewer use the growing knowledge of cancer biology to personalize patient treatments with the proper integration of conventional, complementary, and self-care approaches.
There is a massive need for education and access to appropriate integrative oncology. Last month I shared with you the research-packed guide we created in response to this critical need. I was wowed that more than 1500 of you downloaded it. Thank you. I am grateful that people like you will start to shift this storyline to a success story.
On another note, as November is Caregivers month, look out for a new resource providing caregivers with tools to better care for themselves.
Be well.
