Ilios Project Updates: Making curriculum in the health professions more meaningful in a complex and changing world.

RELEASE NOTIFICATION

We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the latest updated version of Ilios. This release, v3.57.0, contains a new option for all Ilios systems. In our efforts to provide the most effective response to errors and bugs and other reported issues in Ilios systems' functionality, we have implemented a global error logging and reporting system for Ilios.

Would you like to help with Ilios development without having to do any extra work?  How about sending us your error logs in real-time so we can review them and pre-emptively fix them in the next release before they have the chance to become something larger?!

Only issues with your Ilios instance which are already tracked by its error logs will be sent to us. No private information or sensitive data will be included in the information we receive, so please consider helping us create a better Ilios for everyone by enabling this extra feature in your Ilios application! We would really appreciate it!

If your organization would like to share any errors or crashes in your Ilios instance with the Ilios Team, you can easily enable the error-capturing functionality required on your instance by running the console command below in the context of your web services user (eg, `apache`, `www`, `www-data`, etc.):

sudo -u apache bin/console ilios:set-config-value errorCaptureEnabled true

You can read more detail on the error logging system in our code documentation, available at https://github.com/ilios/ilios/blob/v3.57.0/docs/error_reporting.md

For schools already being hosted by the Ilios Project, this feature is automatically enabled in order to ensure effective support and service.

While we remain behind schedule on our completion of a number of features, we are continuing to move forward. Holidays, vacations, and internal resourcing commitments have kept us moving a bit more slowly than expected. I hope to have word on our progress on session linking, LTI module readiness, and other items in the next 2-3 weeks.

if you have questions please don't hesitate to send us a note at support@iliosproject.org.

Highlights in this release:
  • API Changes: No breaking changes.
  • Schema Changes: No breaking changes.
  • Other Changes: Addition of opt-in configuration for global error reporting.

How to Update Your Frontend:
The Ilios frontend is always up-to-date on our content-delivery servers at Amazon S3, but you will need to regularly run a console command on your backend instance in order ensure that your users are seeing the latest version and that they are getting all the latest features and bugfixes. To make sure you users are receiving the latest frontend code at all times, just follow the steps described here:
 https://github.com/ilios/ilios/blob/master/docs/update.md

Though you will probably never need to deploy the Ilios 3 Frontend on your own servers, the source for the frontend code can always be found at https://github.com/ilios/frontend/releases.

The changelog for updates specific to the frontend can be viewed here.
