Dear Members, 

 We've had a tremendously busy week, with two incredible events!

On the 13th of November at the Lansdowne Club, we had our BPF Patrons Lunch Meeting and Talk, where we were joined by our incredible guest speaker Tariq Rangoonwala (Chairman, Pakistan International Chamber of Commerce), who shared his views on the current investment and business opportunities in Pakistan, impact of CPEC and the role and services offered by the PICC. If you are interested in becoming a BPF Patron then please do email the office at info@bpfuk.org. 

We also successfully hosted our BPFSocial! Professional Networking Event in London of 2018 on the 15th of November. We had an incredible turnout for our three inspirational speakers: Javed Khan (CEO, Barnardo's), Dr Zafar Iqbal (Head of Sports Medicine, Crystal Palace Football Club) and  Asad Aamir Ansari (Risk Advisory, Deloitte LLP).

We are excited for our first BPFSocial! Professional Networking Event in Manchester set to take place on 22nd November at the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce in Manchester. We've filled all the places for the event, but contact us on info@bpfuk.org and we will see if we can make room!

Naseem Amin-Venture Partner at Advent

Naseem joined Advent in 2014 bringing 24 years of trans-Atlantic industry experience in R and D, corporate development, business development, and marketing. Naseem most recently served as Chief Scientific Officer at Smith and Nephew, where he oversaw corporate R&D, divisional manufacturing, QA/QC and product development functions. Prior to Smith and Nephew, Naseem led business development at both Biogen Idec and at Genzyme Therapeutics, for both of which companies, he initiated and executed a number of transformative acquisitions and transactions. He has also led the clinical development of five currently marketed therapeutic products. Naseem started his career at Baxter Healthcare where he had executive roles in marketing, product development and clinical research. In addition to his role at Advent, Naseem currently works as a board member and advisor to several not for profit organisations. Naseem is a qualified medical doctor, from the Royal Free & University College Medical School, London and has an MBA from Kellogg Graduate School of Management.

BPFSocial! Professional Networking Event | Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce | Thursday 22nd November 2018 | 6:30pm-8:30pm 

We will be hosting our very popular BPFSocial! Professional Networking Event in Manchester at the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce (Elliot House, 151 Deansgate, Manchester M3 3WD) for the first time ever this year as we continue to expand our programmes nationwide! The event will take place on Thursday, 22nd of November from 6:30pm to 8:30pm and will include opportunities for networking, mentoring, socializing and listening to our inspirational speakers on their "Recipes for Success" followed by drinks and nibbles.

Aneel Mussarat (CEO, MCR Property Group)

After completing high school, Aneel started to buy, renovate and rent out properties in Manchester that were within the range of £10,000 upwards. Aneel worked dedicatedly in his "buy to let" business and Aneel developed important contacts with the stakeholders of his business. His hard work and commitment earned him good name and reputation among his business peers. Aneel moved up the ladder with time and started, constructing and renting out properties through a Private Limited Company named as "Classic Homes". Due to his success in private housing market, Aneel's interest expanded into commercial sector. Aneel also specialised in student residences in Manchester, most notably he undertook the "Student Villages" project. He is also famous by the title of "Student Housing Magnate".In January 2013, Mussarat was awarded the Businessman of the Year award at the British Muslim Awards. He is also part of the Conservative Friends of Pakistan Group.

Ben Haider (Managing Director, QC Legal) 

As a former University of Leeds/Chester College of Law graduate in the law and former practising lawyer, Ben has been at the vanguard of legal search and select for the past two decades. He established QC Legal almost 15 years’ ago, a business that has been accredited by Goldman Sachs as being ‘best in class’. Ben sits alongside Senior Management Teams, Managing/Senior Partners and Boards, as very much a Thought Leader. QC Legal has a business footprint that sits in the UK but advises on the most complex team acquisitions internationally. What makes QC Legal and Ben unique is their absolute commitment to quality, underpinned by just how many magic circle, white shoe and leading national law firms they act for, and all from sunny Manchester! 

Dr Robina Shah (High Sheriff of Greater Manchester) 

Dr Shah is a Chartered Consultant Psychologist and Director of the University of Manchester’s Doubleday Centre for Patient Experience, a ground-breaking centre which involves patients and the public in the training of doctors. Dr Shah, a graduate of the University, where she is a Senior Lecturer, is also an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners and Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine Open Section Council. A Justice of the Peace and Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, she has also been Chair of Stockport NHS Foundation Trust and held regulatory and associate roles at the General Medical Council and Health Education England North West. In April 2018 Dr Shah was appointed the High Sheriff for Greater Manchester, a ceremonial role that support the Crown and the judiciary. They also support the police, emergency services, probation, prison services and voluntary sector organisations.The academic is also passionate about football and is an Independent Non-Executive Director at Manchester FA and the Football Association Women's Football Board and Disability Football Committee.

Henna Riaz (Managing Partner, 360 Audit)

Henna is an award-winning corporate and entertainment lawyer who has spent 15 years working in the music and entertainment industries, starting her career at Addleshaw Goddard before moving to Los Angeles to work for Universal Records where she also took the California Bar Exam. On her return to the UK Henna undertook a role as a senior associate at DLA Piper before leaving in 2010 to set up her first entrepreneurial endeavour 360 Audit. 360 Audit carries out royalty audits for major global brands across the globe including, ITV, Jamie Oliver, Gary Barlow and WWE. Henna has recently set up her third business Safe Phone Ltd which is focused on cybersecurity. The company has developed a secure end to end encrypted APP downloadable on to any device which guarantees privacy and anonymity across all mobile communications for each user of the APP. This revolutionary technology is currently being used by VIP’s, government personnel and HNW’s. Henna has also recently started up a coaching proactive alongside Sarah Goulbourne, founder of Gunner Cooke, where she executive coaches CEO’s and partners. Henna is a non-executive director of the MCDA sitting on a board alongside Sir Richard Lees and Sue Woodward OBE.

BPF Partners with Stairs and Shares to present weekly "Knowledge Cafes for Entrepreneurs" | artFix London | The RSA | September-November 2018

British Pakistan Foundation has partnered with Stairs and Shares to bring you weekly "Knowledge Cafe for Entrepreneurs" at both artFix and at The RSA in London. These micro sessions are based on the knowledge cafe concept that Stairs and Shares have developed over the last 6 years. They help Entrepreneurs gain clarity and direction with their projects. These sessions use social learning and peer to peer approach. 

The lunch time cafes will start every Monday from 17th September, and are kindly being hosted by 
artFix at their new location in Woolwich. They will be 30 minute one on one sessions on a variety of topics relevant to entrepreneurs. 

Zulfikar Deo (the co-founder of this group) will be hosting these sessions. He has worked with and supported entrepreneurs for 16 years. He is a UK Top 50 Business Adviser for 2014. He co-creates innovation with entrepreneurs.

There will also be evening Knowledge Cafes every Thursday from 13th September, starting at 6pm, which will be held at
The RSA. These will be walk-ins for a maximum of 10 people, so get there early!

Two business support specialists will be here to help. They are:
  • Gerry - He has supported entrepreneurs here for 7 years. He used to work for successful entrepreneur Lord Hamlyn. Now he supports entrepreneurs in building and growing their businesses.
  • Kassim - He has supported entrepreneurs here for 6 years. He worked at HSBC for over 10 years and currently runs his own tech business.

BizGees x BPF | Calling all Textile Designers!

BizGees is working with BPF to support Textile Designers from the British Pakistani Community build their brand and portfolios. This call is for Designers who would like to design a textile product with the Swat Valley Guild. The designs will be highlighted in a crowdfunding campaign - the designs raising the required funds will be produced in the Swat Valley by the local artisans. Join us in building your brands as designers.

Controls Systems Engineer / Milton Keynes / £ Negotiable

This is a Full time permanent role

Overview
You will develop on board control software for the ESS battery and other systems supporting the team's Formula 1 programme in order to ensure that performance and reliability targets are met. This role is accountable for all aspects of ESS software from initial concept, simulation study and architecture to software development and verification including all the necessary tools, equipment and process. The role will be required to liaise with development teams in the group, chassis team, supplier and to deliver software according to the schedule defined by company management.

Responsibilities: 
•    ESS software development and plant model development
•    Requirements analysis and system specification
•    Software and digital communications architecture
•    Modelling and simulation of battery control systems
•    Software reliability and fault tolerant design
•    Software validation and testing
•    Software development process, documentation and releasing
•    Tools supporting development and testing
•    Fault diagnosis and factory-based support of trackside activities
•    Development of bespoke software for test equipment and experiments

Requirements: 
•    A qualified embedded software or control engineer with an excellent track record in a large technical organisation within F1 or similar technology business
•    Knows about the application of best practice software process and tools
•    Ability to identify root cause of issues both in design and process
•    Fluency in spoken and written English is essential. Competence in Japanese or another European language is desirable
•    Competence and licence to drive in the UK
•    Domestic Travel and Travel overseas will be required
•    PC literate
•    Team player with particular strength in influencing technical staff
•    Excellent communication and technical skills and high level of attention to detail
•    High level of personal resilience in order to deal with tight deadlines, rapidly changing priorities and high tempo environment
•    Approachable, with balanced judgment and a high level of personal integrity.
•    Able to plan, organize and deliver software projects
•    Self-motivated and competitive
•    Problem solving and decision making skills
•    Cross cultural working environment
