Be Thankful
A few weeks ago, one of my friends shared with me the news about Morgan Hurd who was adopted from China as a toddler and now is an American elite gymnast. My friend kept saying “I am so proud of what you are doing”. Well, neither was I Morgan’s adoption social worker, nor did Living Hope facilitate Morgan's adoption. But I have to say, I couldn’t be prouder of the work I do as an adoption social worker. Being a partner of our amazing adoptive families and able to witness how adoption changed a child's life is one of the greatest blessings in my life.
In the past almost six years working with Living Hope families, I have witnessed many adopted children, like Morgan Hurd, had their talents found and worked very hard to reach their full potentials. Despite the fact that many of these children were born with a disability, they became successful in certain fields, like dancing, arts, sports, academy, etc. I feel so thankful for their amazing families. Without the love, encouragement and support of their families, they could not make such achievements.
Raising a child with special needs is not easy. Raising a child with severe special needs or an older child is more difficult. These children were considered "hard to place" or high risk, or even unlikely to have an average lifespan. I can't imagine how their life would be without their adoptive families. It is really the privilege of mine to walk alongside the families in their adoption journey. I want to thank you, our amazing Living Hope families, for taking extra steps and opening your hearts and homes for these children in need. We believe every child deserves a loving family.
