Edwards Appointed BTR Director of Aviation
Congratulations to Mike Edwards on being appointed the Director of Aviation for the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport (BTR) by the Metro Council at Wednesday’s meeting.
Mr. Edwards has served as Interim Director of Aviation since May, and previously held the Airport Operations Manager position at BTR. He has over 10 years of airport management experience, and worked at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport before coming to BTR. Edwards holds a B.S. Degree in Criminal Justice Studies and Aviation Management from the University of North Dakota, and a Masters of Homeland Security from Tulane University. He has both his airplane single engine and helicopter private pilot licenses.
“I am honored to be appointed the Director of Aviation for the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport,” said Edwards. “I am excited to lead our experienced team, from growing our Aviation Business Park to expanding our list of nonstop flights and airline seating capacity. I look forward to the challenge of further developing BTR as an engine for economic development in our community.”
Mike grew up in the New Orleans Area and graduated from Fontainebleau High School in Mandeville, LA. He and his wife Courtney have been married for five years and have two young children, Ava and Abraham.
Sky Shine Aviation Art
Sky Shine is born out of the mind of Kent Graves (owner of Wings & Wheels LLC based in Hattiesburg/Laurel) as an online retailer for aviation art. However, the website will not be up until we are fully ready. The opening lineup will be from just spinners, single blade props, multiple blades, to the entire assembly.
Each art piece sold will be an actual part of aviation history & not a small reproduction model. Pricing will be listed per item as there are many variables to the individual piece.
I (Kent) will be working heavily to make sure sufficient inventory is accessible at launch. So until that time please be patient. We will also be performing many commissioned art pieces before then so the end product will be on display before purchase.
Until then please like & share this Facebook page for further updates & offerings.

October Was LA Aviation Appreciation Month
Yes, I know that was last month but I just happened to discover this. I hope someone got to appreciate aviation last month. I think most of us missed it…..
Baton Rouge, LA: Governor John Bel Edwards proclaims the month of October 2018 as Aviation Appreciation Month. Louisiana has a significant interest in the continued vitality of aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions, aviation organizations, community airports, and airport operators. Aviation plays a vital role in the state's response to emergencies, natural disasters and rescue operations.
Help Grow Our Readership
Asking LA Airports for Help in This Edition
The distribution list for the Louisiana Aviation News continues to grow very slowly. We gain 1-3 or so subscribers a week which is disappointing. This email went out to 1,186 subscribers which is nice…..but with the size of the Louisiana aviation community it should be many times that.
Why am I even concerned about the size of the distribution list? It’s true that LaAviator.com is not a business and I don’t charge for anything. I won’t get any direct benefit from increasing the size of the list. The main reason is that doing all of this takes a lot of work…. and therefore, the more people that read it then the more people that will benefit from my work.
While the goal of LaAviator.com has always been to benefit the entire Louisiana Aviation Community, over the next few weeks I’m going to challenge various segments of readers to help increase the distribution. Last edition it was Aviation Clubs/Organizations. Today, I’m going to continue with the 70 public airports in Louisiana. And Louisiana Airport Managers & Associates (LAMA) you can help spread the word as well to the airports. Some of you may be thinking that since you are a government entity that you can’t recommend or promote any businesses. LaAviator.com is not a business…. It exists to serve the Louisiana Aviation Community and nothing else.
Here are a few things I would like the Airports to do to help increase the distribution:
- Forward this Louisiana Aviation News email to your tenants, employees and contractors so they can subscribe.
- Routinely put something in your monthly publications about how to subscribe to the Louisiana Aviation News.
- Print a poster and put it on your bulletin boards. You can get the poster by clicking HERE
To Subscribe to the Louisiana Aviation News click HERE and follow the instructions. Or you can also scan this with your cell phone…
Stay tuned as I will pick another segment of the Louisiana aviation community in the next edition. Thanks for your help.
