Newsletter 3 2018

November 2018
We've been busy!
We've been quite busy since we last took some minutes to put pen to paper. In the meantime we have been keeping in touch through Info Services and social media.
We hope you have found this second term as exciting as we have. Read on for a summary of our activities.

Recent activities

The challenge of teaching adults

On September 8th, Ana Laura Martínez and Carolina Marcote led the workshop The challenge of teaching adults at  IES "O. Cossettini". This activity proved so popular that we had to start a waiting list
All participants were delighted to try their hands at planning activities following the lead of the facilitators and left with a great sense of achievement and plenty of ready-made tasks to implement.
We are going to offer this workshop again in 2019, so stay tuned not to miss it!
Take a look at our Instagram photo albumThank you so much, Ana and Carolina!

Mind Full or Mindful?

The presenters engaged participants in reflection and practical ideas to bring mindfulness and positive education into the classroom, illustrating their suggestions with videos of their students. We all left inspired to give them a try!
Take a look at our Instagram photo album. Thank you so much, Carina and Raquel!

Relevamiento de honorarios profesionales

During August and September, about 70 teachers from our area answered our survey about fees for different kinds of classes. We processed and compiled the answers in a document, which we published on our website to access freely by the ELT community. We would like to credit APIBA, Asociación de Profesores de Inglés de Buenos Aires, whose work inspired this task.
We would also like to thank participants in the survey, and all the members who wrote to us to congratulate us on this new undertaking.
This is the second publication available from our website. In May 2016 we published guidelines to start teaching in the public sector. All the considerations remain valid today, so we invite you to read and download them.

Awards to recent graduates

APRIR awards a medal and a one-year free membership to graduates who achieved the highest total average in their teaching education programme. This traditional recognition is available to all the institutions in Rosario. This year, the awards were received by:
Profesorado de Inglés para Educ. Inicial y Primaria: Prof. Natalia Terrazino
Profesorado de Inglés para Educ. Secundaria:
Prof. Josefina Neder

both from IES "Olga Cossettini"
Our congratulations go to these new colleagues.

New benefits for members

During this year we have signed agreements to offer our members benefits for their everyday life.

In October we shared details of the special discounts available for members and their families with Solans Hoteles.
Just access this exclusive link to check out special offers and make your booking.

This week we also emailed all the information regarding how to become a member of La Mutual de la Asociación Médica de Rosario as well as the opportunities it offers.

We hope you can take advantage of these new benefits.

FAAPI News

2018 FAAPI Conference “Redefining English Language Teaching and Learning:
Adapting to Meet Diverse Needs”

From October 11th to 13th APISC (Asociación de Profesores de Inglés de Sta Cruz) welcomed eager teachers from all over the country and treated them to their generous hospitality and an array of presentations reflecting the latest trends in ELT. Why don't you check out the pics on Facebook and Instagram?
The Selected Papers of the Conference are also available to download from their website. The topics include, for example, teaching of local and global culture, school absenteeism, reading comprehension from a gender perspective and teaching senior citizens. We strongly encourage you to resort to them in your own classroom practice and research, for they are context-bound productions by our peers, and therefore especially relevant and meaningful for us.

Argentinian Journal of Applied Linguistics

The latest edition of AJAL, Vol. 06, No. 02 (November 2018) is now available from their website for free download
Remember manuscripts are welcome all year round in the areas of foreign language learning (e.g. ESP, EAP, language skills, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, materials, syllabus, curriculum, assessment, planning and policies), language teacher education, intercultural communication, cultural studies, (critical) discourse analysis, and others. See details.

All work and no play ...

On November 14th we held our traditional End-of-the-Year Party. We booked the cozy XV Gringas Bar only for us. High-spirited members and friends of APRIR got together to enjoy each other's company over food and drinks. Thank youLucio and Tincho Buzzano together with Mauro Guerieri who provided live music to the delight of those present, who often joined in the singing of great classics. Of course there were also raffles and a toast to achievements past and future. The video will be shared on our social networks soon!
