2018 Year Review

Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games

28 boys and girls aged 15 to 18 from all over the world were part of the Polo Showcasing Day on the 2018 Youth Olympic Games. The event took place on October 10th on Campo Argentino de polo's famous field 1.
From 10AM onwards the venue was open to the public and had a series of games and activities prepared to teach everyone who was interested in learning more about polo and how it is played. The stations included wooden horses, target practice and short mallets for various games.
At midday a lunch was held for the members of the International and National Olympic Committee and after a speech from FIP's CEO Alex Taylor and AAP's President Eduardo Novillo Astrada a non competitive polo match was played on Field 1.
The game was divided into 6 chukkas of 5 minutes each and the players were divided onto the white team and blue team. Each chukka the players on each team changed so as to respect the non competitive nature of the Showcasing event.
This event marked a historic success for the game of polo, considering the last time it had been played on an Olympic Game was in 1936.

Polo Athlete's Visit to the Olympic Village

An Olympic Village is an accommodation center built for the Olympic Games, usually within an Olympic Park. Olympic Villages are built to house all participating athletes, as well as officials and athletic trainers, they are extremely secure barring press and media form entering the premises.
Since polo was played on the Olympic Games as a Showcasing Sport and not a competitive one, the athletes did not stay at the olympic villa but were given the chance to spend a day there.

Hong Kong Polo
Hong Kong has a long-standing affinity for horses, as evidenced by world famous track-racing circuits such as Happy Valley, established by the British as far back as 1846. Yet in one of the most densely-populated and expensive cities in the world, there just hasn't yet been both the space and financial backing to also accommodate polo.
There is one man who is aiming to change all that. Andrew Leung, a 40-year-old lawyer, born in Hong Kong and educated in the United Kingdom, intends to open-up Hong Kong residents' minds to the possibility of learning polo. The inaugural Hong Kong Beginners' Cup- an event spearheaded by Leung's drive and passion- took place in Tianjin on the 13th and 14th of October this year.
