Have fun!
Duck's delicious anatomy

The past weeks were quite relaxed. We first stayed with friends at their house in the bush in the Cairns area. Anna enjoyed helping to "get" and prepare the meat for dinner and learning that the anatomy of a duck is pretty similar to the human's. Heiner just enjoyed eating the delicious duck soup and duck curry the following days...
Unreal reality

We drove along the coast, visited some towns and pretty beaches along the way.
One unforgettable excursion took us to Alva Beach. We had our third scuba dive in Australia. It was not only the deepest but also by far the best from all dives we've ever done! Around 40 minutes from the beach by boat lies the Yongala Wreck, sunk 100 years ago. And the fish life which we saw during the two dives was just incredible. Thousands of small fishes, swimming in schools of fishes around us. And unbelievable huge fishes that swam by our heads, unimpressed of our presence. We felt like in a movie about ancient sea monsters. Except, that is was quite real!
Endless Australian hospitality

We relaxed for a couple of days in a nice National Park before we followed an invitation to Mackay. Anne and Bob, two very experienced overlanders who have traveled all over the world, and still do so, had invited us via Facebook to stay at their place. We had two amazing days with them, good talks, many laughs and received good advice for the next leg of our trip. And, of course, we took a dip in their pool!
Back in the waves

Finally, our surfboard went into the water again! We stayed in Agnes Water, Queensland's northernmost surf beach, for a week and caught every wave (or at least tried so). It was good fun in this laid back community.
A lot of sand - and a lot more

And probably the last big highlight in Australia was on the list. We took the ferry to Fraser Island. 120x15 km of sand. But it's not only white beaches with turquoise water but rainforest inland dotted with freshwater lakes. It is almost unbelievable what you can experience on this island. It is diverse, and beautiful in every aspect. Many dingos inhabit the area and while you drive along the beach it might happen that one just passes by. Or by your ocean view camp...
We enjoyed the week on the island a lot. Although it is a popular destination with quite some tour buses, it didn't get too crowded. And we always found a quiet spot in the rainforest (yes, it grows ON the sand!) or at one of the many pristine beaches.

What's next???

Well, in only two weeks, Willie will already be in a container and we will have our last two days in Australia! The past 11 months went by incredibly fast and it's hard to imagine to leave this country after this unforgettable time. We met many many great people, experienced just beautiful nature and by far the best wildlife ever!! Just a couple of days ago, we saw whales out in the ocean! Whales! Jumping out of the water! Unbelievable...

But new adventures lay in front of us!
For everybody who hasn't heard the news yet, or who doesn't follow us on Facebook or Instagram: We're going to Africa!!
Willie will take the ship from Sydney to Cape Town in early December. We will have some days off in Thailand and then visit familiy and friends over Christmas and New Years Eve in Germany (exciting!!). Mid of January, we'll fly to Cape Town, pick up Willie - and start to explore a new continent!

For now, we enjoy our last weeks in Oz! Catch some waves, have some BBQs. And say goodbye to probably the last kangaroo that we'll see for a while (check out the link to the pic at the end for a very beautiful one!).
