The Continent of Antarctica

The Continent of Antarctica, a new book by SPRI Director, Professor Julian Dowdeswell, and glaciologist Michael Hambrey, is an illustrated account of the Antarctic continent.

Covering its physical environment, biology and history, it also examines the future and environmental implications for the rest of the planet.

It is available to purchase in the SPRI Shop and was recently reviewed in Nature: International Journal of Science.

Radioactive Collection

Did you know, some of the items in our collection are radioactive?

Conservator Sophie Rowe has written an article for the Journal of Conservation and Museum Studies, talking about her experiences managing a small radioactive collection at the Polar Museum.

The Library of Ice

Join us for an afternoon with acclaimed poet and writer Nancy Campbell to celebrate the publication of her latest book The Library of Ice

This fantastic drop-in event will include readings, book signing and a chance to meet the author.

Saturday 8th December, 2pm-4pm. Free to attend.

Christmas Opening

The Polar Museum will be closed for the Christmas holidays from 4pm on Thursday 20th December 2018, until 10am on Thursday 3rd January 2019.

Our regular opening hours are Tues-Sat (and bank holiday Mondays) 10am-4pm. Admission is free.

We wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
