Transgender Day of Remembrance 2018

Despite the amazing progress Ireland has made in recognising and including its LGBTI+ citizens in recent years, many in our community still experience violence, discrimination and stigma. Worldwide, many trans women, particularly trans women of colour and sex workers, are murdered. Trans Murder Monitoring has documented 368 cases of reported killings of trans and gender-diverse people between 1st October 2017 and 30th September 2018, constituting an increase of 43 cases compared to last year’s update. In total, 2,981 murders have been reported in 72 countries worldwide between 1st January 2008 and 30th September 2018.

This must end.

On 20th November, the Transgender Day of Remembrance, we will remember all of the siblings we have lost.

Transgender Day of Remembrance Ceremony

The Trans Day of Remembrance Ceremony includes candle lighting, reflections and songs. This is not only a commemoration but also a celebration of life. Let us all work to ensure better lives for trans people in Ireland and everywhere.

Heads Up! Workshop

On the Trans Day of Remembrance, it is important to look after yourself and your mental health. On 20th November, we are running an interactive workshop for trans people on positive mental health. In this Heads Up! workshop we will explore techniques and tools to encourage resilience in everyday life for trans people. We'll also look at practical ways to develop self care. We hope for this to be a positive space for trans people on a day that can be difficult for some.
