Closing the Gap

Dear Friends,

The global HIV response hangs in the balance. So much has been achieved--lives saved, HIV infections prevented-- but leaning us away from success is a mounting sense of complacency, an ever shrinking space for civil society, a decline in funding, groups of people who are being left behind in the response, an increasing number of HIV infections in several parts of the world and a shift to more conservative and right-wing policies.

In many ways, the gap is growing. The pressure is mounting and our goal of ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030 is becoming less attainable with every passing day. We need action now.

World AIDS Day and AIDS Awareness Month is just around the corner. It’s our time to shine a light on the HIV response; the amazing, life-changing work that we’re doing and the work that still needs to be done. ICAD invites you, Coalition members, to submit a blog for its annual World AIDS Day Blog Series in partnership with the Huffington Post Canada. We invite you to look within Canada and outside, to share your thoughts on what Closing the Gap means to you and to critically reflect on the HIV response knowing we are so close to the deadline for the 2020 Fast-Track targets (90-90-90) and just over a decade away from the 2030 Global Goals for Sustainable Development (SDGs).

What does Closing the Gap mean to you?

Please notify Kate Alexander by Tuesday, November 20 if you intend on submitting a blog by contacting her at kalexander@icad-cisd.com.

We look forward to your submissions!
