Rio Texas Pastor Joins Migrant Caravan in Mexico

Rev. Gavin Rogers, an associate pastor of Travis Park United Methodist Church, San Antonio, recently traveled to Mexico City to join the migrant caravan as they were continuing their journey.

Rogers wanted to get to know some of the people traveling toward the United States, hear their stories, and better understand why they are risking so much to leave their home countries.

Communion, Thanksgiving fixings at Food Pantry in Pflugerville

Like many churches, Pflugerville First UMC has a vital food pantry ministry.

This week, clients coming to the food pantry received Thanksgiving Day food items as well as the regular offerings. In addition to food items, lead pastor Rev. Russell Floyd and food pantry volunteers used the opportunity to extend hospitality in additional ways.

As persons arrived, they were welcomed and then invited to share prayers, visit with the pastor, and also receive Holy Communion before leaving if they so desired.

It was "a meaningful morning, sharing communion with our neighbors”, said Rev. Floyd. “The foundation we lay is hospitality first that leads to the prayer, support and communion.”

Should your church be the next
Project Transformation Site?

Partnering with Project Transformation to be a site for programming for children can help re-anchor your congregation in your neighborhood.  Church development that happens in partnership with Project Transformation is multidimensional and interdisciplinary.

This year's application is available for the San Antonio and the Rio Grande Valley areas for 2019 and 2020 and Austin area churches for summer 2020.
Site churches are chosen based on
  • Neighborhood Opportunity
  • Missional Readiness
  • Lay Engagement
  • Leadership Engagement
  • Location
Project Transformation is not looking for churches who have it all accomplished (they don't need us) but we are looking for churches with passion and intention.
