December at Your Library

The Brainerd Public Library was established in 1904 and was a founding member of the Kitchigami Regional Library system in 1969. The Library's mission is to bring people, information, and ideas together to enrich lives and build community.

The Brainerd Public Library Will Be Closed:
Christmas Eve: Monday, December 24
Christmas Day: Tuesday, December 25

The Library will close at 5:00pm on Monday, December 31

Computer Classes


Saving Digital Stuff Part 1: Disk, Drive, or Cloud? 
Wednesday, Dec. 5 @ 9:30-11:30 am 


Our lives are increasingly stored on our computers and devices - where do we put it all? And just what is "the cloud," exactly? Basic familiarity with computers required. Registration requested online or by calling: 218-829-5574.

Introduction to Microsoft Word
Friday, Dec 7 @ 2:30-4:30 pm


Type and edit a letter using Word tools and features. Learn about saving and sharing files. Ability to use a mouse and keyboard required. Registration requested online or by calling: 218-829-5574.

Saving Digital Stuff Part 2: Files, Scanning, and Organization
Wednesday, Dec. 12 @ 2:30-4:30 pm


Once we've decided which digital storage options we want to use, we still need to know how to save, how to scan items, and how to organize all the pieces. Basic familiarity with computers required. Registration requested online or by calling: 218-829-5574.

Usborne Children's Book Fair


Saturday, Dec. 1 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

The Friends of the Brainerd Public Library will be hosting an Usborne Children's Book Fair and will be on hand to offer free gift wrapping! There will be a broad range of books available for purchase that are appropriate for all ages of students. 

Google VR Expeditions


Monday, Dec. 3 @ 2:00-4:00 pm

Join us on one of our guided 20-minute virtual reality adventures! 10 spots available per session; 5 sessions. No registration required, open to all ages. 

Join the Friends of the Brainerd Public Library for their annual open house on Monday, December 3 from 10am-4pm at the library. The Brainerd High School Windfall Singers will sing carols from 2:30-3:00 pm, and refreshments will be served. Enjoy the holiday decor and peruse the Usborne Book Fair, too!

The Tale of Despereaux

Imagination Monday

Colorful Christmas Creations†

You'll have to put some muscle into this activity, but you'll design a project with a stained glass look that's great for the Christmas season or throughout the New Year! For ages 8-12. No registration necessary.

Gardening Program

Using Plants in your Holiday Decor**
Tuesday, Dec. 11 @ 12 Noon


The outside temperature has dropped, the days are getting shorter and the holidays are just around the corner. Make your home warm and cozy by decorating with live plants that add color and seasonal cheer. The Silent Wife

Special Event: Book Exchange
Monday, Dec. 16 @ 6:00 pm

Join Sheila and Laurel for a fun new tradition: Choose a book you already have read and enjoyed. Inside the book cover, put a note about why you loved the book and your name. Wrap the book in holiday paper. Each person who attends will participate in this book exchange (there will be no book discussion this month). Cost for this event will be $12, which includes food (to be announced) and a beverage. (Click here to RSVP, limited to 50 people.)

To break into you locked box, you'll need to solve the clues and find the keys around the library. Up for the challenge? Bring a friend to help you out!
