THANKSGIVING TURKEYS:

Exciting news! If you would like to order a passionately pastured turkey from the wonderful, Christian Reverence Farms, you can order a fresh one and pick it up here at Church of the Redeemer on Tuesday, the 20th! Suzanne and her team raise turkeys in a way that honors the turkeyness of turkeys, as Christian farmer Joel Salatin would say, to glorify the Lord. (See the photo of their farm above!) They are more expensive than turkeys in the grocery store, but that's because they are raised in their beautiful fields (pictured here), as humans have raised poultry for centuries before the invention of concentrated animal feeding lots (CAFOs). We know it wouldn't be within everyone's budget but wanted to offer the option. We are thrilled to partner with other passionate Christians doing Kingdom agriculture! Text/call Lena if interested at 336-317-8870.
This Friday is the deadline to pre-order a turkey, click here: https://bit.ly/2yUesSz (just make sure you let Lena know you ordered it so she can make sure to have it delivered to the church). Pick up will be Tuesday evening, the 20th.

SATURDAY WORKDAY:
November 17th, 9am-12pm

Help transform our hoop house from a tomato jungle to a winter greens paradise! This would be a great activity for husbands, dads and kiddos while their wives/moms are at the Women's Gathering in the greenhouse. Bring warm clothes, gloves and a shovel if you have one! :) We need as much help as we can get, so spread the word to your friends. Workdays are a great way to introduce other community members to our farm and our church. See the FB event here.

For CSA Members

This Sunday will be the final Harvest Share CSA pick-up for the 2018 season. These 20 weeks of sharing the bounty of our harvest with y'all have given the farm team so much joy and we are grateful for each and every one of you for making this season possible. We will be organizing a get together to get your feedback and tips for next season!

Storing Radishes:

Store in sealed plastic bag with damp paper towel in fridge for 1-2 weeks. See instructions here
Thanksgiving Recipe Ideas with our Produce:

It's not a southern thanksgiving without collard greens! Try this recipe from Southern Living. Or for a healthier version, saute them

Try this simplest of kale salads (Lena's favorite) or spice it up with an autumnal version with winter squash

For a fresh and beautiful Thanksgiving salad, Lena's mom, Barbara, tosses pomegranate seeds, sliced pears, radishes, spring onions and walnuts over bib lettuce with a light vinaigrette

Or try this mouth-watering shaved carrot and radish salad to perfectly complement heavier dishes.

These roasted spring onions with thyme would be a succulent complement to turkey and mashed potatoes.

And of course, turkey and stuffing, with our fresh herbs! Check out this cilantro-lime rubbed turkey; Ina Garten's perfect turkey with fresh thyme or her rosemary roasted potatoes; a quick roasted turkey with a parsley-caper sauce; and a classic stuffing with fresh sage (my grandma always used cornbread in her sage dressing).

Happy feasting!!
