South Coast FLPN is hosting a free, full-day workshop in Nowra on November 28th (limited places)

 

Assimilation as Trauma: Trauma Informed Cultural Practice (FREE workshop)



With Karen Menzies: Conjoint Lecturer; Indigenous education and research, University of Newcastle.

 

What will the sessions cover?


The full day workshop includes sessions that incorporate a range of experiential activities including case studies, small and large group discussions, audio-visual material, Powerpoint presentations & critical reflections.

Sessions cover:

  • Socio-political and historical context of the Aboriginal experience of past child welfare laws, policies and practices.
  • Impact of forcible separation and assimilation.
  • Trauma: Definition, manifestation, neurological and physiological impacts.
  • Trauma informed practice.
  • Implications for law professionals and professional development.
*This workshop will also be available in the far south in 2019
