Meet the Pros: Bridget Harrington (RESCHEDULED)
Bridget Harrington is the Executive Director of Innovate Raleigh, an organization working to drive Raleigh into the top five innovation hubs in the country. Bridget has 15 years of experience in marketing and entrepreneurship, including co-founding her own marketing firm, Syndicate Media Group. Bridget has worked in New York City, San Francisco and Raleigh. 

Bridget will be hosting an information session on Friday, November 30, from 12:30-1:30pm in Carroll 142. Students interested in careers in marketing or entrepreneurship, or those interested in working in San Fransisco or New York City should attend! Preference will be given to the first 15 students who RSVP. There are still a few spots open! RSVP here.

Emerging Reporters Program - ProPublica
Are you a college student of color interested in doing great journalism? ProPublica wants to help. Apply for our Emerging Reporters program by Dec. 2.

The Emerging Reporters Program provides a $9,000 stipend, along with mentoring, and trips to the National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting conference and our New York office for five students each year who work or want to work at college journalism outlets — newspapers, websites, radio stations or TV stations. Check out our previous fellows.

The Emerging Reporters Program is specifically designed for African Americans, Latinos and other people of color. It is only for current undergraduate or graduate students taking full-time classes in the academic year and those who can demonstrate financial need. The purpose of the stipends is to make college journalism accessible to students for whom it would otherwise be economically out of reach. To learn more about the program, click here.

Freelance Video Opportunity - Local music non-profit
Two professors at the UNC at the Department of Music are looking for video help for their non-profit chamber music program for high-school musicians in the area.

The non-profit hopes to make a short video (perhaps 2-3 minutes) like the one linked here. The person will receive a small fee in exchange for their shooting and editing work.

The Eve Carson Scholarship
The Eve Carson Scholarship is welcoming applications now through Sunday, Dec. 16 at 11:59 p.m. The Eve Carson Scholarship targets UNC juniors demonstrating transformative passion, service, leadership and growth during their time at Carolina. A living legacy of former Student Body President Eve Carson, the scholarship fulfills Eve's vision for a student-run merit scholarship awarded to students, by students. The Scholarship exists to recognize students of all majors and career paths who have grown significantly in their time at UNC - providing support for Scholars' expenses during senior year (half the cost of in-state attendance), as well as funding for a transformative summer experience (up to $5,000).

The scholarship is available to all junior students at UNC-Chapel Hill who have at least a 3.0 grade point average and are not currently receiving a full merit-based scholarship. Social Media Intern - WUNC (The American Homefront) / Durham, NC
WUNC is searching for a social media intern who can oversee and implement social media activities for the American Homefront Project, a collaborative journalism project of WUNC, KPCC in Los Angeles, KPBS in San Diego, WUSF in Tampa, and Texas Public Radio. The project reports on military and veterans issues for a national audience.

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience related to the area of assignment in a broadcast television, radio and emerging media environment; or equivalent combination of training and experience is required. Position is intended for a college student or recent graduate. Military knowledge strongly preferred. Significant experience and expertise engaging in social media and other online platforms. Familiarity with social media platforms frequented by military personnel and veterans. Familiarity with public radio. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency with standard spelling, grammar, punctuation, and style. Understanding of journalistic practices, journalistic ethics, and public radio’s core values.

The intern will work 8 - 10 hours per week. Pay is $12 - $18 per hour. The work schedule is flexible, but a minimum of 5 hours per week must be during business hours at WUNC's Durham studios. The start date is approximately January 1. If interested, email Adam Hochberg at ahochberg@unc.edu.

Assistant Director of Career Services - UNC MJ-School / Chapel Hill, NC
The Assistant Director of Career Services provides a range of career preparation programs and advising for nearly 1,000 undergraduate and 50 masters students in the UNC School of Media and Journalism. The Assistant Director creates and implements engaging and enriching programs, such as networking trips with alumni in major markets; Meet the Pros sessions where students engage with industry leaders; an alumni mentorship program; and the Lookout Fellows Program and other funded internship opportunities.

The Assistant Director conducts advising sessions and workshops on internship and first job searches, helping to finetune resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles and online portfolios. The Assistant Director manages career-related communications, including a listserv of internship and job postings, social media and website. The Assistant Director manages relationships with employers, alumni, University Career Services and colleagues within the MJ-school. The Assistant Director collects data and evaluates and assesses all programs. This position reports to the Director of Career Services. For more information and to apply, click here.

Investigative Reporters - The Markup / New York, NY
A well-funded startup, The Markup is investigating and illuminating the societal effects of new technology. They are looking for journalists who have been working for the past 3-5 years, who are self-motivated, generate a lot of story ideas, are tech-savvy, have shown the ability to dig deep into a dataset, are quick clean writers, and whose stories have led to real-world change. Carl Johnson Realty is positioned to grow and is seeking a marketing assistant to add to its team in January 2019.
