TechFarms' Graduate, Mine Survival Inc., Nears Release of its First Emergency Escape Respirator
Since graduating from TechFarms, Mine Survival Inc. (MSI) has been hard at work readying their first emergency escape respirator. The company’s patented device, the Mine Survivor, is based on rebreather technology and provides respiratory protection for miners who find themselves in hazardous environments such as those found during a mine collapse.
Founders Rob Moran and David Cowgill believe the Mine Survivor will be popular worldwide due to its many novel features, which include the ability to have voice conversations without having to remove the face mask. Unlike underwater rebreathers, the Mine Survivor is designed for land-based situations where the air becomes contaminated with smoke or other harmful chemical vapors. The Mine Survivor’s closed-circuit design provides life-saving oxygen while simultaneously removing exhaled carbon dioxide – all without exposing the individual to the toxic environment.

Regional Strategic Initiative Poised to Help Grow Florida
Panhandle Economy
For the last two years, TechFarms has been working with individuals all across NW Florida
to help devise a new strategy for economic transformation. The regional strategy is known as the Northwest Florida Forward initiative and is described in detail at www.NorthwestFloridaForward.com.
The strategy for the region’s 13 counties incorporates five major focus areas which include talent, business vitality, infrastructure, entrepreneurship & innovation, and quality of place. Groups representing these five key areas meet monthly to fine tune the plan as they and others start to execute the strategy. Individuals from Gulf Power, the University of West Florida, and Florida’s Great Northwest have done a tremendous job leading this regional effort.
