TechFarms' Latest Innovation is an Internet Sensation!
TechFarms' tenant, Jeff Elkins, has developed an amazing battery-powered AirBoard drone that can carry a person at speeds of up to 50 MPH. The video has gone viral with more than 7 million views on Facebook. Many viewers have commented that the video is fake, but it is, in fact, real.
The AirBoard is the result of a 10-month R&D effort. It has 8 electric motors, 16 Li-ion polymer battery packs, stabilization circuitry, and a new wireless hand-held throttle control that was developed to allow the pilot to control the AirBoard while onboard or remotely while on the ground. The internal flight control algorithms have been tuned so that steering is accomplished simply by leaning in the desired direction.
The AirBoard is still an experimental aircraft and more development work is needed to improve flight time and safety. Numerous potential markets for the AirBoard are emerging which include entertainment, lifeguard rescue, ship-to-shore, heavy lifting, and military.
