December Artist Demonstrations at Gallery Calapooia
December 1, 11:00 - 2:00, Master potter Dennis Johanson, will demonstrate Wheel Throwing Pottery Bowls.
December 8, 11:00 - 2:00, Printmaker and painter Cheryl French will be demonstrating a variety of printmaking techniques. Using plates cut from linoleum, monoprints developed on plexiglass plates, and raised collages, she will show a variety of ways to create prints on paper. She will demonstrate how these techniques can be used to create individualized and beautiful holiday cards.
December 15, 11:00 - 2:00, Feltmaker Pat Spark will demonstrate how to create felt versions of Scandinavian gnomes. Known as Tomtar or Nisser, these Scandinavian creatures are full of mischief. On Christmas Eve, you have to leave out a bowl of rice pudding so they will be assuaged and will not play tricks on you during the coming year. Failure to do this will result in things going wrong on the farm or in your urban household. If they are given their special Christmas rice pudding with lots of butter, all will be well in your household.
Downtown Unwrapped
Gallery Calapooia participated in the kick-off event for Albany’s Christmas season, Downtown Uwrapped, on November 8. The gallery windows were painted by Melissa Saylor and Sue Ann Johanson, and then wrapped in brown paper for the big debut on the evening of the 8th. We stayed open until 8pm and treated our customers to hot cider and sweet treats. Melissa was there to sign copies of her new book, “Also an Annimal”.
