Rep. Joe Morelle (D-N.Y.), one of three new members of Congress sworn in since Election Day, is building up his staff roster with a trio of hires from office at the New York Assembly, where Morelle spent the last five years as majority leader.
Nick Weatherbee, now chief of staff, followed Morelle from the Assembly, where Weatherbee worked as Morelle's senior policy adviser and legislative director. He previously cut his teeth as regional director to Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and is so far Morelle's only hire with U.S. congressional experience. Morelle was sworn in earlier this month to fill the vacancy left when Louise Slaughter (D) died in office last spring.
Dana Vernetti, now press secretary, and Sean Hart, now communications director, also come from the New York state house, where they worked as Morelle's deputy communications director and deputy chief of staff, respectively.
Morelle's other hires are Kristin McCann, now district director, and former campaign assistant Dan Lemire, now scheduler.
