A LETTER FROM MIKE HOWARD
November 2018
Dear USBIG member,
Your continued support has allowed USBIG to make significant progress. Thank you. Over the last few years we’ve seen a big boost in media interest and now politicians are reinforcing the idea of a basic income. A few have actively endorsed it.
Now is the time to expand our efforts of informing and educating people about the basic income guarantee. I’m writing to you with an urgent appeal to support the continued work of USBIG.
We have a substantial job ahead of us - as the social safety net is increasingly frayed, and the majority of new jobs are part-time, temporary, and otherwise precarious, public discussion of a basic income guarantee is ever more relevant.
USBIG is focused on the urgent task of promoting the dialogue, putting basic income on the policy agenda, and bringing people together to organize around this potentially system-transforming policy. Here are a few of our more recent projects:
- Upgraded our website. Check it out at https://usbig.net/ . We have a team of volunteers posting the latest blogs, videos, articles, educational resources, and other information on basic income. (Click here if you would like to volunteer for USBIG.)
- Incorporated as a 501(c)(3) corporation. so you can now make a tax-deductible contribution.
- Worked with the Basic Income Canada Network to organize the 2018 NABIG Congress—check out the presentations! At this Congress we also began exploring ways that the various basic income groups in the US can collaborate.
- Started planning the next NABIG Congress in New York City, June 15-16, 2019—stay tuned for details.
If we can reach a critical mass of regular support from our members, we will be able to recruit more volunteers, boost participation at the annual congress, perform our mission more effectively, and take on more ambitious projects.
Please consider a one-time, or, even better, a regular recurring donation to USBIG today – giving Tuesday.
Also, let us know if you have any questions, comments, or would like to get more involved in our efforts.
In solidarity and gratitude,
Mike Howard, Coordinator, USBIG Network
