Allergens look set to continue to be a focus area for all sectors of the food industry.
Undeclared allergens, present in products have been the dominant reason for product recalls in 2018. Recalls related to allergens have caused over 55% of food recalls in Australia in 2018.
2018 saw the launch of the National Allergen Strategy in August, with bipartisan Federal support ensuring allergen management remains a s a top priority.See nationalallergystrategy.org.au

Regulatory Authorities  such as the NSW Food Authority continue to focus on allergen management- making the presentation of standard Allergen Management resources and assessment tools mandatory for the NSW Food Authority approved Food Safety Supervisor qualification.

Free resources continue to be developed and food businesses should utilise these  for staff training:
New Food Service resources include a free online modular training resource- "All about Allergens". There is a allergy aware checklist, and a food allergy substitution tool with ideas of ingredients you can use instead of allergens. See these and other resources at https://foodallergytraining.org.au/.

The Allergen Bureau have released a free interactive "Risk Review website."
Suitable for manufacturing, use the interactive map of a factory to explore potential allergen risks, and get information about possible allergen control measures at each point.
