Hey there!

It's been another busy month 🏭 for us at Hasura and I can’t wait to tell you all about it! Let’s start with all the updates to the Hasura GraphQL engine:

  • Adding custom business logic: We've released an early preview of our Remote Schemas feature - you can use it to add custom business logic in your favourite language/framework by stitching remote GraphQL schemas within Hasura itself. This is ideal for adding business logic like a payments API 💸 or querying a different datasource. You can read more about it here and then use these serverless boilerplates to get going in under a minute!
  • Support for aggregations in your GraphQL query: Functions like count, sum, avg are now available in your GraphQL queries. We have also added support for Postgres' DISTINCT ON feature.
  • Analyse GraphQL query performance on the database: The Hasura console allows you to analyze the performance of your GraphQL query as the database sees it! You can use that information to make database level optimizations like adding indices. While working on tables with millions of rows, one of our users brought query execution time down from 30 seconds to less than 1 second😱😱!

Check out our release notes for all the details & bug-fixes.

We have put together a collection of sample apps along with their code repos and Hasura console for you to browse and try out. You will also find boilerplates to help you get started quickly with your favourite framework.

Once again, thanks to all our awesome users who keep giving us feedback, spotting bugs and making contributions. We ❤️ you very much.

3factor apps

Last month we proposed an architecture called 3factor.app. It is a pattern for building web and mobile backends that allow for fast iteration, while being resilient and highly scalable. The 3 factors your backend should have are (1) Realtime GraphQL (2) event-sourcing & (3) async serverless.

There was some 🔥spirited🔥 discussion about it over on HackerNews. Expect to see a lot more on 3factor in the coming weeks!

Set up a production ready GraphQL backend in a few minutes

A few days ago, we released the Hasura DIY BaaS, using Hasura, DigitalOcean and Auth0. It is the simplest way to setup a production-ready GraphQL backend for your app, supporting thousands of requests per second at just 5$ a month🤑. Check it out!

Featured Hasura Users

Deeptracy is an open source project that scans your project dependencies to spot vulnerabilities. Built by the Innovation Labs team at BBVA, it is a meta tool to analyze the security issues in third party libraries used in your project.

Last month, we featured Sail CI, a Kubernetes based cloud-native continuous integration platform with unlimited concurrency as standard. On our blog, you can find an in-depth interview with the founders, covering Sail CI’s awesome features and unique take on CI, how they made their technology choices, and their vision for the product.

If you’ve built and deployed something cool with Hasura, and would like to be featured, please let me know :) Just hit reply or reach out to me on Twitter or Discord.
