More than a school. We are a community.

On this Giving Tuesday, I am writing to share difficult news that shows why what we’re doing together in Kenya really matters.

Weeks ago, one of our 4-year-old Ameena Centre students was struck by a motorbike and died from her injuries. Unfortunately, this type of accident is common in and around Kiang’ombe as streets are narrow and shared by foot and motor pedestrians.

In response to this tragedy, our staff and school community have come together to support the family. A message from our center director Mercy explains how:

“It was a very trying moment but I thank God he has seen us through. From affording burial space, the coffin, mortuary bills, transport and food, they (the girl’s family) had nothing at all. Their eyes were on us … We are not completely healed from the whole ordeal, but my belief is that the girl's soul is rested in eternal peace."

Your support makes possible our primary goals of education, nourishment, and hope but it also enables us to support members of the Ameena Centre family when they are faced with heartbreak. Their eyes are always on us.

On #GivingTuesday, and always, we thank you for helping us see their need, and meet it.

With gratitude,
