Can you believe the size of this emerald? A 1.1kg Emerald crystal. That's 5'655 cts guys. Phew, what a whopper. Discovered in Zambia, which is now rivalling Colombia for Emerald production. The tight geometric form of the growth marks is the most defined I have ever seen. They almost make the crystal seem man made. A true natural wonder.
The emerald has been named "Inkalamu", which means "lion". Read more about this emerald via the CNN news feed.

As I'm featuring a massive emerald in this newsletter, I thought I ought to photograph and list some of my more special emeralds. Normally these Colombian emeralds would be heading for Hatton Garden. But I thought I'd try something a little different this time and offer them directly to you. Now I do understand that this is a bit of a departure from what I normally sell on the website. I also know that for a lot of you working with silver, you might find these gems costing a bit more than you want to spend. I also know that quite a lot of my customers of many years are now working with gold. These emeralds are worthy of setting in gold, but quite honestly, I don't think it should matter. Whether you choose to set these, or just add them to your collection to set at a later date, you will be hard pushed to find Colombian emeralds of this quality, at these prices any time soon.
