This is an urgent alert from the Recreational Fishing Alliance of NSW

Dangerous conditions Sunday and Monday
A deep low over the southwestern Tasman Sea is generating strong to gale force westerly winds over most coastal areas. As this low gradually weakens and moves away late in the weekend, winds will ease and tend southerly.

BOM has issued a warning for the coast between the Hunter and Victorian border for Sunday, and between Coffs and Illawarra on Monday: large and powerful surf conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as crossing bars by boat and rock fishing.

Seas of 3 metres and southerly and southeasterly swells of 3 metres are expected on those parts of the coast.

Be careful to check forecasts and local conditions before you head out. Check local forecasts on the BOM website at http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/forecasts/map.shtml

Always tell someone where you are going and when you plan on coming back. If the rock platform is wet ask yourself 'why is it wet?' then watch the ocean for waves and swells for at least 20 minutes. Always fish with a friend, wear proper rockfishing footwear, light warm high visibilty clothing, and wear a life jacket in case you get washed in.

Stay safe, always watch the local conditions before fishing and never turn your back on the ocean.
