Shrewsbury’s newest school is officially “outstanding”

Shrewsbury’s newest school has been rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted just weeks after it welcomed its first pupils.
Shrewsbury Prepatoria opened its doors to pupils in Reception and Year One at the start of September this year with a vision to build on the success that had been achieved by the nursery and pre-school which launched five years beforehand. It brought with it an entirely new curriculum and radically different approach to Early Years education.

And yet strangely, Jeep, the brand that inspired them all (yes, even Land Rover) and the grand-daddy if-you-will of off-roaders, have been somewhat late to join this particular aspirational party. The importance of rocks being discussed in Shrewsbury

The importance of rock conservation will be highlighted at a special lecture in Shrewsbury, given by the only Professor of Geoconservation in the world.
Cynthia Burek is a professor at the University of Chester and will be giving the lecture ‘Why Conserve Rocks? What is Geoconservation?’ at University Centre Shrewsbury on December 5.
Professor Burek has published extensively on the topic of geoconservation and teaches on the conservation and forensic models. She is also Director of the UNESCO GeoMon Anglesey Geopark and serves on the English Geodiversity Forum.

Financial Times journalist heading to Shrewsbury

A highly regarded business commentator and national journalist is returning to Shropshire next month to give a lecture at University Centre Shrewsbury.
Andrew Hill is an Associate Editor and Management Editor at the Financial Times and studied at Shrewsbury School from 1978 to 1983. He will be at the University on Monday, December 10, and will be exploring if business can do well by doing good.
The event at Guildhall, Frankwell Quay, will start at 1pm, is free to attend but booking is essential.

Free Self-Defence Classes for Women and Children in Shrewsbury

To celebrate the opening of their new premises in the Shrewsbury town centre, Shropshire’s mixed martial arts (MMA) and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) gym, Straight Blast Gym (SBG) are offering free self-defence classes to women and children until Christmas.
Classes will focus on learning the art of BJJ, a unique martial art and combat sport system that focuses on grappling and ground fighting.

A special event is being held in Shrewsbury to coincide with the release of the film Mary Poppins Returns - and it promises to be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
It is 54 years since Mary Poppins was released and has proved to be a much-loved classic with children of all ages ever since, if not with the creator.
The new film goes on general release in December and will be the subject of a discussion being held at University Centre Shrewsbury on December 1.
