Empowering a community often starts with empowering women.
AHSWA supports the most vulnerable girls and women in Uganda, where menstrual hygiene and sex education are very much taboo.
Because of poverty, sanitary towels are unavailable or unaffordable. Consequence is that girls regularly miss school and finally drop out of school and become isolated.
AHSWA teaches about menstrual hygiene and how to make their own reusable sanitary pads.

In general, we don’t do discounts. And we certainly don’t want to encourage the feeding frenzy this time of the year. People spending too much money they don't have on things they don't want... this is not our way.
I realise this sounds a bit strange, and it is somewhat contradictory. Because we sell stuff. Of course I want you to buy it. The more, the better. Well, yeeessss… but. A big but.
Yarnz is also about balance, about reducing our footprint as much as possible, about spending your money wisely and ethically, and about being part of a community that values quality over quantity.

Een gemeenschap versterken begint vaak bij de vrouwen versterken.
AHSWA steunt de meest kwetsbare vrouwen en meisjes in Oeganda, waar menstruele hygiëne en seksuele voorlichting erg taboe zijn.
Vanwege armoede is maandverband niet beschikbaar of niet betaalbaar. De consequentie is dat meisjes school missen en uiteindelijk uitvallen en geïsoleerd raken.
ASHWA geeft voorlichting en leert meiden hun eigen herbruikbare maandverband te maken.

Over het algemeen doen we niet aan korting. En we willen zeker niet meedoen aan de koop-waanzin rond deze tijd van het jaar. Waarbij mensen teveel geld uitgeven wat ze eigenlijk niet hebben, aan spullen die ze eigenlijk niet willen... dit is niet onze manier.
Ik realiseer me dat dit misschien een beetje raar klinkt en tegenstrijdig is. Immers, we verkopen spullen. Natuurlijk wil ik dat je die koopt. Hoe meer, hoe beter. Nou, jaaaa... maar. Een grote maar.
Yarnz gaat ook over de balans terugbrengen, over onze voetafdruk verminderen waar mogelijk, over je geld wijs en ethisch uitgeven, over deel zijn van een community die meer waarde hecht aan kwaliteit dan aan kwantiteit.
Over minder kopen, goed kiezen, en goed voor je spullen zorgen.
Dat is allemaal leuk en aardig, toch is het leuk om een speciale gelegenheid te vieren.
Geïnspireerd door andere (kleine) ondernemers en out-of-de-box denkers vorig jaar, hebben we een Black Friday alternatief. Groen lijkt beter geschikt, aangezien we eco-friendly spullen verkopen.

Denk eens na over het prijskaartje van het product wat je wilt kopen. Als het goedkoop is, wordt de *echte* prijs meestal betaald door iets of iemand anders.
Als je duurzame en ethische producten koopt, weet je dat er geen verborgen leed achter de glitter van je nieuwe aanwinst zit. Dat de mensen eerlijk behandeld zijn en de impact op het milieu zo laag mogelijk is gehouden.

Onze prijzen zijn eerlijk. Voor onszelf, onze producenten en onze klanten. Onze producten zijn het geld waard. (We weten dat we niet goedkoop zijn... we doen niet aan goedkoop, we doen aan kwaliteit.)
Geen sale, geen risico om iets mis te lopen, niet bedrogen worden als je de normale prijs betaalt. Dat is eerlijk naar onze klanten.
Niemand vindt het leuk om in de maling genomen te worden. Dat wordt je dus ook niet.
