Dear Bureau members,

Thank you for joining us in Nijmegen, Gelderland last week. We hope you benefitted from the discussions. We have included some information below, outlining the key takeaways and outcomes. You can find a longer, recap article on our website.

With best wishes,
Mathieu Mori
AER Secretary General

Key takeaways
AER Manifesto for the European Elections 2019
Bureau members discussed and adopted the AER Manifesto for the European Parliament Elections 2019. We would invite you to share these recommendations with the political groups and candidates in your country to further the regions’ agenda during the upcoming mandate of the European Parliament and the new Commission.

AER Position on future EU Cohesion Policy
Members also voted to adopt an updated position on the European Commission legislative proposals for the future EU cohesion policy, setting out the specific changes European regions propose to make to the new framework. We encourage you to put these messages across to decision-makers in your national government. If you have an office in Brussels, it is also useful to share these proposals with the officials at your Permanent Representation who are responsible for cohesion policy.

AER Position on Social Innovation
As the EU sets the next Multiannual Financial Framework and spending programmes for the period 2021-2027, Bureau Members also adopted a position on how the EU can best boost social innovation across Europe, supporting regions’ leadership role in driving social innovation.

A Regional Debate: Migration, Diversity and Integration
AER members, high-level institutional officials and representatives of civil society came together to debate the dynamics of migration, take stock of the European and global policies, funding instruments and programmes to manage migration, diversity and integration, and explore the challenges and opportunities of multi-level and multi-actor governance of migration, diversity and integration at regional level.

The debate showed the commitment of AER member regions to more effectively manage migration and successfully harness the benefits of diversity, through multi-level and multi-actor cooperation.
Going forward
